If you're a real estate agent who's tired, stretched thin, and starting to wonder how much longer you can keep this pace, you're not alone, and burning out isn't the cost of doing this job well. Real Estate on Purpose is a biweekly interview show for agents, brokers, and coaches who are ready to work smarter, not endlessly. Host Heather Shimala, 17 years in the business at Reserve 76 Realty, sits down with coaches, top-producing agents, brokers, and industry voices for honest, unscripted conversations about what actually makes a career in this business last. She started this show after watching too many good agents burn out chasing a version of success that was never actually theirs to begin with this is the conversation she wishes someone had handed her earlier in her own career.

Every episode centers on three things most real estate training skips: setting boundaries that actually stick with clients, colleagues, and yourself; getting honest about your core values as a person, not just the ones printed on a business card or hanging in an office; and building the systems and habits that let you stay productive without being available every hour of every day. Call it burnout prevention, work-life balance, or just sustainable business growth, this show treats it as the real conversation it is, instead of recycled hustle-culture advice.

Guests include business and performance coaches, top 1% producers, team leads, brokers, and content creators who've each had to answer the same question in their own careers: how do you build a business that doesn't consume everything else in your life? You'll hear how experienced agents set limits with demanding clients without losing the relationship, how top producers protect their time and energy as their business scales, how brokers build a team culture that catches exhaustion before it becomes a crisis, and how real estate professionals redefine what success actually means to them personally, not just financially. Every conversation is recorded live, unscripted, so what you hear is the real answer, not the rehearsed one.

This show is for agents who feel burned out, overwhelmed, or unsure the constant grind is worth it. It's for new agents building sustainable habits before exhaustion sets in, for veteran agents rethinking what the next chapter of their career should look like, and for anyone leading a team who wants to build a culture where burnout isn't just accepted as the norm. If you've ever felt like you had to choose between succeeding in real estate and having a life outside of it, this show exists to prove that isn't actually the trade-off it seems like. You shouldn't have to sacrifice your health, your relationships, or your sense of self to build something you're proud of.

This isn't motivation dressed up as a strategy, and it isn't another generic industry hype channel. It's real talk from people who've lived it, and real permission to build a business on your own terms. New episodes release every other week, giving you time to actually sit with what you heard and put it into practice before the next one drops — because a show about avoiding burnout shouldn't add one more thing to your plate. If boundaries, burnout, and a business built around what actually matters to you are conversations you need right now, this is your show.

  • EP3: Success Starts With Accountability
    Sep 15 2026

Real estate agent burnout is real, and most brokerages never talk about it. This episode is the fix: a real accountability system that has kept agents consistent for almost three years, plus what separates successful agents from everyone else.

EP3: Success Starts With Accountability. Managing Broker Katie Kossev joins host Heather Shimala to break down Own Your Future, the 6 AM accountability group she built inside Side, Reserve 76 Realty's parent brand, after twenty five years across four brokerages.

Katie walks through how the group works. Roughly 20 agents meet on Zoom every Monday at 6 AM, cameras required. Members sign up one month at a time through a Google form, committing to 8,000 steps Monday through Friday, a shared monthly book, and a stated personal and business goal, tracked through a free app called Step Up and a group text that keeps people honest between calls. One member has hit her step goal every single day, including weekends, for almost a year. Katie also explains why a spouse is the wrong accountability partner, and why signing up month by month instead of indefinitely keeps a group from quietly falling apart.

From there the conversation moves into what separates a successful agent from an average one. Katie's answer is not hustle. It is confidence built from real market knowledge, agents who time block to study their own market instead of guessing, and who stop pouring hours into buyer and seller packets nobody asked for. They also get into why AI generated social content is starting to lose trust with buyers and sellers, and why finding your ideal client matters more than chasing everyone in your market.

They also talk mindset: choosing abundance over scarcity when the market feels unpredictable, why Katie reads rising inactive agent license numbers as opportunity, and why this may be one of the better times in years to represent a buyer, including Katie testing her own pricing advice on a house she owns in Galveston.

The episode closes with stories from backstage at Inman, including a warm moment with Jay Shetty, meeting Mel Robbins, and what Holly Meyer Lucas stepping in as Inman's new Chief Marketing Officer could mean for the industry.
