Some people are deep in building their business. Some are just getting started. Some haven't taken the leap yet, and some are wondering how they'll ever make it work alongside a family. This podcast brings you the real stories behind the wins, the losses, the money and the mindset it takes to build something that lasts.

Hosted by Jordan Robb, a property investor and developer who's spent over a decade building multiple businesses from scratch. These days he oversees what he's built and is on the hunt for what's next, from consulting other business owners to new ventures entirely. Three years ago that hunt got personal too, when he became a father, and an active one at that.

Every episode, Jordan sits down with a different guest to unpack how they built what they built. What they got right, what they got wrong, what changed everything, and what it really costs to build a business or a portfolio from nothing.

And woven through it, the part most business podcasts leave out. Where family fits into the story too, whether you're living it already or picturing what it might look like. Because ambition and family were never meant to compete. They blend.

  • I Sold A Venture-Backed Startup Then Started Again, While Having a Young Family: Andy McGinley
    Oct 8 2026

In this episode of Profits & Parenting, Jordan sits down with Andy McGinley, co-founder and CEO of Hosel, a marketplace that compares second-hand golf clubs across sellers, like Skyscanner for golf. Andy previously founded CareSourcer, a care marketplace that raised around £9 million in venture funding before a COVID pivot and a sale. He is now building again as a dad of two young girls.

In this episode, Andy traces his path from his family's care at home business in Edinburgh to CareSourcer, where he pre-sold £25,000 of access before writing a line of code. He shares what COVID did to the business, why he chose the buyer that protected his team, and how an exit landed just before his first daughter was born. He and Jordan then get into raising £500,000 from angels and a London fund through an advanced subscription agreement, how SEIS and EIS work, and what building a second startup feels like with a family at home.

    Key Takeaways:
    - Starting a business in your twenties runs on naivety and energy, while a second time round you have a network and know where the start line is
    - The family care business focused on just two Edinburgh postcodes, so carers spent time in homes rather than travelling
    - CareSourcer pre-sold £25,000 of access to providers before any code was written
    - COVID took CareSourcer's placement revenue to zero overnight, forcing a pivot to an employer benefit and eventually a sale
    - Choosing the buyer that protected the existing team mattered more than chasing the best offer
    - Hosel raised £500,000 through angels and a London fund before launch, using an advanced subscription agreement
    - SEIS and EIS can reduce investor risk and remove capital gains tax on exit, but they should not be the only reason to invest
    - Scottish founders can raise in London by showing up, with networking powering growth more than location
    - AI is used daily, from raising capital to planning a customer service agent that keeps the team small
    - Marketplace data shows which clubs hold their value, and a Scotty Cameron putter holds up far better than most

    Best Moments:
"When you launch or go for a second time business, it does feel a little bit like you're on cheat mode to some degree."
"I got 25 grand from selling to providers before I'd written a line of code."
"If you replace failure with learning, because that's what you've done. You've just learned."
"I'm not in the 5:00 AM club from a CEO perspective, but I'm definitely from a second child perspective."

  • Making Money Simple, And How To Invest To Preserve Your Cash: Keith Boyes of Spentwell.
    Sep 24 2026

In this episode of Profits & Parenting, Jordan sits down with Keith Boyes, chartered financial planner and founder of Spentwell. Keith's path into financial planning started with a sports management degree and a start date that landed right in the middle of the 2008 to 2009 financial crisis.

Keith unpacks why cash feels safe but quietly costs money over time thanks to inflation, and why the industry often makes money feel more intimidating than it needs to be. He and Jordan get into what he learned advising expats in Hong Kong, why FCA regulation genuinely protects clients, and why leading with education builds trust faster than leading with products.

    Key Takeaways:
    - Holding cash long term feels safe but inflation quietly erodes its value
    - A simple plan you actually follow beats a complicated one you don't
    - Diversification is about more than "eggs in one basket," it shapes how a portfolio is built
    - Pensions and ISAs each play a different role as tax wrappers
    - Many people struggle to spend in retirement after decades spent saving
    - AI is already cutting admin for financial advisers, freeing them to focus on client behaviour and real-life decisions

  • Building A High-Growth Property Business In Scotland: Laurie Duncan
    Sep 24 2026

In this episode of Profits & Parenting, Jordan sits down with Laurie Duncan, co-founder and director of Real Property Scotland, a business that trades around 30 single property units a month and has built a portfolio of over 350 units. Laurie's journey started with his first buy-to-let after the 2009 crash, and even had Spider-Man filming outside his office along the way.

Laurie unpacks how off-market deals, investor support, and a ruthless focus on buying well took him from one property to running a group. He and Jordan get into the real pivots that forced better decisions, from the Section 24 tax changes to moving property out of his own name as he scaled, and why deal trading and sourcing let him grow without relying on endless personal cash.

    Key Takeaways:
    - Off-market deals and disciplined buying matter more than volume alone
    - Section 24 tax changes forced a rethink on how property should be held as you scale
    - Deal trading and sourcing can fund growth without endless personal cash
    - Professionalising a brand and building a team culture that lasts is what lets you move from doing everything yourself to working on the business
    - AI tools like Claude can turn messy deal details into clean, on-brand deal presentations fast
    - Commercial property brings different funding and negotiation dynamics than residential buy-to-let
