Welcome back to Power of Passion, a podcast from the Ferdinando & Luigi Innocenti Foundation, produced with Be the Change Media Network.

In this episode, host Lily Mott is joined by Sarah Campbell, a Youth Ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, to explore her lifelong passion for playing the piano and the special role music plays in connecting her family.

Sarah shares how music has been part of her life since before she was born, with her parents, sister, and grandparents all sharing a love of playing and performing. From childhood memories of playing piano alongside her sister to her family’s musical traditions, Sarah reflects on how music has brought generations together and created memories she will cherish.

Lily and Sarah discuss how her relationship with the piano has evolved, from learning classical pieces to discovering new ways to express herself through music. Sarah also opens up about navigating perfectionism, managing nerves, and finding the balance between pursuing her passions and other commitments. She shares how playing the piano offers her a sense of calm and allows her to be present in the moment, as well as why music is about how you feel as much as how it sounds.

This episode is a reminder that passion doesn’t have to be about perfection. It can be a source of connection, comfort, and creativity, bringing people together across generations.

In this episode, the Ferdinando & Luigi Innocenti Foundation team heads to Brighton for the Sussex Final of the National Speak Out Challenge, delivered by Speakers Trust in partnership with the Ferdinando & Luigi Innocenti Foundation, to explore the power of finding your voice and speaking about the things you care about.

Over the past year, up to 300 young people from across Sussex have taken part in public speaking workshops to develop their confidence and communication skills. In this episode, our host, Lily Mott, speaks with some of the young people who made it to the final.

Throughout the episode, young participants share the stories and issues behind their speeches. They also reflect on what they learned about themselves through the process, how public speaking challenged their confidence, and what it means to them to speak about something that genuinely matters to them.

Lily also speaks with Victoria Costello and James Davies from Speakers Trust about the importance of giving young people the skills, confidence and platform to be heard, while Ruth Pryce, an event judge and trustee for the Foundation, reflects on the power of hearing young people share their experiences in their own words.

This episode is a celebration of young people's voices and a reminder that sometimes finding your passion starts with being given the space to speak about what matters to you.

In this special episode, host Lily Mott is joined by Alex Jolly, Partnerships Director for 100% Human at Work, to explore one of the biggest questions facing young people today: what does the rise of artificial intelligence mean for our futures?

At the Ferdinando & Luigi Innocenti Foundation, we've been thinking deeply about how AI will shape young people's lives, opportunities, and sense of purpose. We invited Alex to join us because of her expertise in the future of work and her thoughtful perspective on why joy, purpose, and our humanity will matter more than ever in a world increasingly influenced by AI.

Together, Lily and Alex discuss how AI is changing the workplace, why young people should be part of shaping these conversations, and how society can better prepare the next generation for a future that is still being written. They also explore why passions, creativity, and meaningful human connection may become some of our greatest strengths in the years ahead.

Alongside this wider conversation, Alex reflects on her own passion for singing in a choir and how music reminds her of the importance of community and doing something simply because it brings joy.

In this episode, host Lily Mott is joined by Reuben Byfield, student at University of Warwick and President of Warwick Hip Hop Dance (EQHO), to explore how hip hop became a powerful form of expression, identity, and community in his life.

Reuben shares how his journey began in primary school through a local street dance club, before stepping away and later rediscovering his passion at university. From training in London and Manchester to performing and competing with his team, he reflects on how hip hop has evolved from a hobby into something that shapes how he sees himself and the world around him.

Lily and Reuben discuss the role of dance as a tool for self-expression and confidence, the importance of community in helping young people grow, and the realities of navigating stigma around dance as a young man. Reuben also shares insights from his leadership experience, supporting others to find their place within the community and watching their confidence grow.

In this episode, host Lily Mott is joined by writer and podcaster Zarin Khan to explore how creative writing became a powerful outlet for self-expression, identity, and personal growth.

Zarin shares how her love of storytelling began in childhood, from trips to the library with her dad to discovering authors who inspired her to start writing her own stories. She reflects on the challenges of pursuing creativity as a South Asian woman, where expectations around career paths can make it difficult to openly embrace passions that don’t always fit traditional definitions of success.

Together, Lily and Zarin discuss what it means to truly connect with a passion, from writing as a form of self-care and reflection to finding the courage to share your work with others. Zarin also shares a powerful original poem and opens up about balancing her creative life with a career in engineering, showcasing how different passions can coexist, even when they compete for your time and energy.

This episode is a reminder that passion isn’t always about outcomes; it’s about what fuels you, grounds you, and helps you show up as your most authentic self.
