  • This Whole Episode Is Bomp! Records
    Sep 3 2026

This week it's all Bomp! Records, start to finish. Greg and Suzy Shaw started one of the last truly independent labels, put out Flamin' Groovies' first single back in 1974 and went on to launch The Romantics, Stiv Bators, The Plimsouls, and Iggy Pop's long-lost Kill City sessions. Power pop as we know it doesn't exist without them.

Greg's gone now, but Suzy's still running the label, still doing exactly what she titled her own book after: saving the world, one record at a time.

  • The Boys, Slade, and the Citizen Kane of British Pop Movies.
    Aug 13 2026

This week on Pop Rocks Radio — The Boys are our featured artist. London punk's most underrated band, and yes, we know about the Christmas records.

New music from Roger Joseph Manning Jr., Woolworthy, Doghouse Rose, and Lex Bauman, plus classics from Vibeke Saugestad, The Undertones, and Sugarbomb. Doghouse Rose even has a track called "The Boys," which we did not plan but absolutely take credit for.

Movie of the Week: Slade in Flame (1975). Slade play a fictional band called Flame, and the whole thing is a bleak, cynical, warts-and-all takedown of the music business. It confused everybody in 1975 but was later referred to as the Citizen Kane of British pop movies. We're ok with that.

Available where you get your podcasts. Unless you get them from Spotify.

    Today's tracks:

The Speedways- Now That I Know How

The Boys- walk my dog (feat. Boys)

Roger Joseph Manning Jr.- Modern Dance (The After School Specials)

Librarians With Hickeys- 1972 (Single Version)

    The Undertones- Jimmy Jimmy

    Susanna Hoffs- Casablanca

    Woolworthy- Can't Press Rewind

    Vibeke Saugestad- Velvet revolution

    Hotel Saturn- Saving Grace

    Lex Bauman- What Kinda Love

    The Boys- Classified Susie

    The Boys- Terminal Love

The Boys- Poor Little Rich Girl

    Doghouse Rose- The Boys

The Darling Buds- Oh No You Don't

    Growing Pains- Swimming

    Sugarbomb- Hello

    The Boys- Punk Rock Girl

  • They Called Him the One Man Beatles. He Was Just Emitt Rhodes.
    Aug 6 2026

This week on Pop Rocks Radio, we're featuring the music of Emitt Rhodes, a man who recorded his solo albums entirely by himself, in his home, before anyone knew what that meant. Dubbed the secret alter ego of Paul McCartney. Sued by his own label. Holed up for decades. And absolutely worth your time.

Also, great new music from The Rallies, Julez and the Rollerz, and 2nd Grade, plus classics from The Jam and The Keys — and The Merry-Go-Round, Emitt's band before he went solo.

Movie of the Week: The One Man Beatles (2009). An Italian director crosses the ocean to find a forgotten American genius. What he finds is complicated, heartbreaking, and completely fascinating.

    Today's Tracks:

    The Morning Line- Anhedonia

The Merry-Go-Round- Gonna Leave You Alone

    2nd Grade- Cellophane Girls

    Joel Cusumano- Buying Time

    Bleu- I Won't Go Hollywood

    Julez and the Rollerz- Time

    The Rallies- Comes And Goes

    Urge Overkill- Take Me

    Tokyo Rose- Phoenician Fire

    Telejet- Here Come the Faeries

Emitt Rhodes- With My Face on the Floor

    Emitt Rhodes- Really Wanted You

Emitt Rhodes- Live Till You Die

Trash Man- Cool Until It's Not

    Gooey Cookie- Gimme The Goo

    Grass Show- Alice

    Space Jaguar- Unstack In Static

The Jam- All Around the World

The Keys- I Don't Wanna Cry

Emitt Rhodes- Dog On A Chain
