  • 130. Rewrite the Mother Code: Release Mom Guilt | Dr. Gertrude Lyons
    Oct 28 2026
In this episode of Permission to Thrive, Suzi Lula welcomes Dr. Gertrude Lyons for a heartfelt conversation about motherhood, mothering, and the beliefs that can keep women from caring for themselves.Dr. Lyons is a TEDx speaker and host of the podcast Rewrite the Mother Code. She has dedicated her professional life to exploring the transformative capacity of people and challenging limiting beliefs about what it means to be a woman and a mother. Her work invites us to recognize that mother energy—the capacity to create, care for, and nurture—is available to all of us.Together, Suzi and Dr. Lyons explore the “mother codes” many of us inherit from family and culture: the idea that there’s one right way to be a mother, that a good mother puts everyone else first, or that she should be able to do it all without support. They reflect on how these beliefs can fuel mom guilt, self-judgment, isolation, and the pressure to measure ourselves against other mothers. They also discuss how we can begin rewriting those beliefs with self-compassion, community, boundaries, and a deeper understanding of how we were mothered. Whether you’re raising children, nurturing a relationship or a dream, or learning to mother yourself, this conversation is an invitation to define mothering in a way that feels true to you.In this episode, you’ll hear about:🌀 What “The Mother Code” means and how cultural and family expectations shape our experience of motherhood🌀 Why self-care can bring up guilt, and how that guilt has been reinforced over generations🌀 The belief that a “good mother” should manage everything alone🌀 How community and support can help mothers feel less isolated🌀 The influence of our own childhood experiences and caregiving models🌀 Rewriting inherited beliefs, honoring personal values, and setting boundaries🌀 How mothering can include caring for yourself, relationships, creative work, and the world around you🌀 The ripple effects of valuing and nurturing yourselfDr. Lyons reminds us that caring for ourselves matters because we matter—and that the changes we make within ourselves and our families can ripple outward.Learn more about Dr. Gertrude Lyons and her work:🌐 Website📸 Instagram💼 LinkedIn🎙️ Listen to Rewrite the Mother Code on Apple Podcasts▶️ Watch on YouTube✍️ Read Dr. Lyons’s Substack👉 Do you have a question you’d like me to answer on the podcast? • 129. Why You Get Triggered: Healing Your Inner Child With Compassion | Joe Argazzi
    Oct 22 2026

In the past, when I felt triggered, shame often followed. I knew I was reacting, and I wished I weren’t. Then came the frustration: “I thought I was over this. Why am I still reacting this way?” or “That happened years ago. Why can’t I just move on?”

After years of inner work, I understand those moments differently. I wasn’t making space for the emotions of my Survival Self—the part of me shaped by childhood experiences and the coping strategies I developed to get through them.

Those triggers were a younger part of me asking for love, understanding, and compassion.

🎙 In this week’s episode of Permission to Thrive, I sit down with my wonderful guest and fellow Soul Care Coach, Joe Argazzi, to explore the difference between our authentic essence and the Survival Self we formed in childhood.

    We talk about:

🌀 How to recognize your authentic self and your Survival Self🌀 How to meet yourself with compassion when you feel triggered

🌀 Why turning toward your inner shadows is a brave first step in healing

If you’re ready to understand yourself more deeply and become the source of validation you’ve been seeking, this episode is for you.

The journey begins with compassion for the parts of you that survived. They helped you get here.

💙 And… please join me for my upcoming course: Healing the Heart of the Inner Child.

Together, we’ll explore the wounds and limiting beliefs of the past and learn to offer your Inner Child the love, compassion, and safety she needs to thrive.

    📅 October 29–December 10, 2026

⏰ Thursdays at 11:00 AM Pacific Time

There will be no class on November 26.

  • 128. The Hidden Self Within: Meet Your Inner Child
    Oct 15 2026

What if the joy, creativity, light - and the extraordinary life - you’re longing to live are still within you?

Your Inner Child—the Divine Child within you—is the part of you that holds your authentic, playful, worthy, and joyful self.

But as we grow up, we often learn to hide parts of who we are. We adapt to expectations, dim our light, and lose touch with the freedom we once knew.

Your extraordinary life hasn’t disappeared. It’s simply waiting for your attention.

In this episode of Permission to Thrive, I invite you to reconnect with your Inner Child and rediscover the light, creativity, and aliveness that are still yours. We’ll explore how conditioning can shape the way you see yourself, and how you can begin to offer this younger part of you the care and acceptance she needs to flourish.

    In this episode, we explore:

🌟 What the Inner Child really is and why this part of you matters

🌟 How conditioning teaches us to hide our authentic selves

🌟 How to reconnect and nurture your Inner Child so you can live with greater joy and wholeness

I’m so glad you’re joining me for this journey back to the joyful, authentic self that has always been within you.

💙 And… please join me for my upcoming course: Healing the Heart of the Inner Child.

Together, we’ll begin transforming the wounds and limiting beliefs of the past. You’ll learn to offer your Inner Child the love, compassion, and safety she has always needed—so you can create and live your most extraordinary life.
