  • Birbal's Clever Trap
    Oct 26 2026

The Problem: Birbal receives word that an officer stationed at the fort gate is corrupt, demanding bribes from anyone wishing to enter.

The Strategy: To catch him red-handed, Birbal disguises himself as a folk singer. When the guard demands 20 gold coins for entry, Birbal claims he is penniless and promises to share half of whatever reward the Emperor gives him. The greedy guard agrees and lets him in.

The Performance & Strange Request: Birbal sings before Emperor Akbar, who is deeply moved and offers him any reward he desires. In disguise, Birbal asks for an unusual gift: 100 lashes on his back. Though baffled, Akbar honors the request and summons a servant to carry out the punishment.

The Trap Sprung: Before the whipping begins, Birbal stops the servant and asks Akbar to summon his "partner," revealing his deal with the corrupt gatekeeper to split the reward 50-50.

The Resolution: Realizing the truth, Akbar strips the officer of his post, sentences him to 50 lashes, and sends him to prison. When Akbar asks the clever singer to reveal his true identity, Birbal removes his disguise. Akbar embraces him warmly and honors him with gifts for his wisdom and wit.

Moral: Greed and corruption lead to downfall, while wit and presence of mind can outsmart any injustice.

  • Tears of pearls and Scorpions
    Oct 22 2026

Lakshmi’s Plight: Following his first wife's death, a poor farmer named Veeraiah remarries a woman named Shantha to look after his seven-year-old daughter, Lakshmi. Instead of caring for her, Shantha turns out to be cruel and ill-tempered, forcing the child to do all the heavy household chores and beating her into silence whenever Veeraiah is away working in the fields.

The First Blessing & Escalated Abuse: When a revered Swamiji visits their village, Lakshmi seeks his blessing and weeps as she recounts her suffering. He consoles her and blesses her that she will suffer no more. Upon returning home, Shantha slaps her for being late. To Shantha's astonishment, Lakshmi’s tears turn into precious pearls as they hit the ground. Driven by greed to collect more pearls, Shantha begins beating and tormenting the little girl relentlessly.

The Second Blessing: Distressed that her suffering has only multiplied, Lakshmi runs back to the Swamiji and explains the unintended consequence of the blessing. Realizing what happened, the Swamiji gives her a corrective blessing and reassures her to return home with confidence.

Retribution and Reform: When Shantha strikes her again, Lakshmi’s tears transform into scorpions and centipedes that immediately attack Shantha. Terrified by the painful consequences of her actions, Shantha stops abusing the child altogether and gradually begins treating Lakshmi with genuine love and care.

Moral: Cruelty and greed inevitably invite retribution, while ill-treating the innocent will always bring about its own punishment.

King Vajranadha wanted to know the exact time of his death to enjoy life and finish all his tasks beforehand. When his royal astrologers could not predict it, he threw them into prison.

A wise astrologer named Gandharva arrived and told the king that he had only six months left to live. Hearing this, the king fell into deep depression, stopped eating, abandoned his duties, and became bedridden out of constant fear of death.

Gandharva soon returned and confessed that he had lied, revealing that the king actually had a long life. He explained that he only did it to show him the agony of knowing one's death. Realizing his foolishness, the enlightened king released the imprisoned astrologers, rewarded Gandharva, and began ruling his kingdom peacefully by focusing on the present.

    Moral:

Do not ruin your present life worrying about the future or death; live every day meaningfully.
