King Vajranadha wanted to know the exact time of his death to enjoy life and finish all his tasks beforehand. When his royal astrologers could not predict it, he threw them into prison.
A wise astrologer named Gandharva arrived and told the king that he had only six months left to live. Hearing this, the king fell into deep depression, stopped eating, abandoned his duties, and became bedridden out of constant fear of death.
Gandharva soon returned and confessed that he had lied, revealing that the king actually had a long life. He explained that he only did it to show him the agony of knowing one's death. Realizing his foolishness, the enlightened king released the imprisoned astrologers, rewarded Gandharva, and began ruling his kingdom peacefully by focusing on the present.
Moral:
Do not ruin your present life worrying about the future or death; live every day meaningfully.
