It's October and that means stations and streaming services are rolling out their bloodiest, goriest, and most violent movies as Hollywood celebrates evil. But watching bloody movies, playing savage video games, and even seeing the violence that plays out on the news everyday comes with a high cost. Studies have shown that they make us apathetic to the suffering of others, as well as desensitizing us to that which should shock us - including the bloody, gory animal sacrifices of the Old Testament, and most especially, the violent and horrific price Jesus paid for us at His crucifixion. Someone once said that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This is true not just about secular history, it's true with our Christian walk. The Old Testament is not meant for us to follow to the letter as those in the Hebrew Roots Movement claim; nor is it meant to be unhinged from the New Testament because it's an irrelevant stumbling block as Andy Stanley and New Testament Christians claim. The Old Testament needs to be studied and understood in order for Christians to more fully understand and appreciate the New Testament. "To neglect the Old Testament is to neglect the New Testament."

At the end of Hebrews chapter 6 and throughout Hebrews chapter 7, the author talks about a man named Melchizedek, a very unusual and highly unconventional priest and king. Who is this man? Why is he only mentioned two other times in the Bible? Why is Jesus likened to him? And what does any of this have to do with the book of Hebrews, the Hebrew Roots Movement, and other current movements that believe we should continue to adhere to Old Testament Law? Confused? Join us as we sort it all out and clear the hurdle of Melchizedek!
