The Third MTG x Marvel Crossover May Be the Best Yet

At NYCC 2026, Wizards of the Coast revealed Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, the third Marvel Universes Beyond set for Magic: The Gathering, due in April 2027 after Marvel: Superheroes and Marvel: Zombies. It's designed to feel like Magic first and Marvel second, with the Magic design team creating its own story and reworking existing characters to fit it.

Setting and story: The dark, arcane set centers on the Darkhold, Marvel's version of the Necronomicon, in a single narrative spanning about two dozen dimensions. Thor and Doctor Strange are the lead heroes, with Hela and Dormammu as the main villains. The basic lands show both the idyllic and the ruined versions of planes such as Asgard, Great Britain, the Dream Dimension, Svartalfheim, and Limbo.

Characters: Moon Knight, Night Rider, Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, Magik, Blade, Captain Britain and Morgan le Fay, Scarlet Witch, and Agatha were all name-dropped, and some characters may appear in several versions.

Mechanics: The set leans on the "Arcane" and "Book" subtypes (grimoires, tomes, cursed books), with many Instants and Sorceries, some of them Arcane, which is unusual for non-permanents. It also adds a new Vengeance keyword, where you pay a cost such as three life for a benefit, echoing the Darkhold's life-draining power. Revealed cards include Hela, the Endbringer, and Gargantos, Demon Unchained.

The author calls this the most exciting NYCC reveal and thinks Wizards may be "cracking the code" on Universes Beyond. They say they miss having Magic's own lore and planes in each set, and that this set brings the spirit of Magic to another universe.

Writer Grant Morrison Takes on James Bond in New Comic Series

Announced at New York Comic Con, IDW Comics is publishing a new James Bond comic written by Grant Morrison (known for definitive runs on Superman, Batman, and the X-Men), made in conjunction with the Ian Fleming estate. There is no artist, title, or release date yet, though the opening six-part storyline will be called Sunbreaker and the series is expected in 2027. It promises new gadgets, cars, and a new “ultimate villain ripped straight from the headlines,” which Nerdist guesses may be a tech billionaire. IDW describes a world resembling ours “reflected in a deadly funhouse mirror,” with Bond facing unfamiliar situations and foes. Morrison said they’ve been a Bond fan forever and called the chance to put their stamp on a British icon like King Arthur, Robin Hood, or Sherlock Holmes too good to miss. Nerdist expects a wackier, less gritty 007, in keeping with Morrison’s taste for the offbeat side of iconic characters.

BALDUR’S GATE 3 Astarion Comics Are Coming Soon

Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast will publish all their Baldur’s Gate 3 stories in one ongoing series, with the lead “player character” changing every 6 to 12 issues or so. Issues #1–6 follow Astarion hunting a killer behind a spree of ritual murders in Waterdeep, set after he escapes Cazador Szarr. That arc is written by Alyssa Wong, with pencils by Vincenzo Carratù, inks by Elisabetta D’Amico, colors by Valentina Taddeo, and letters by Buddy Beaudoin. Issue #1 gets five cover variants plus a blank character-creation cover. Karlach takes over for issues #7–18, descending into the Nine Hells, with writer Becky Cloonan and artist Francesco Scimonelli. Later arcs will cover Wyll, Shadowheart, Gale, and Lae’zel. Baldur’s Gate 3 #1 arrives in comic shops February 24, 2027 for $4.99, with a preview in Dungeons & Dragons #2 on January 6, 2027.

M&M’s Assemble: A Candy-Coated Marvel Collab Is Here

Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday (December 18), M&M’s and Marvel are releasing seven limited-edition candy packs that dress the Spokescandies as Marvel characters: Yellow as Wolverine, Red as Deadpool, Blue as Daredevil, Purple as Elektra, Green as She-Hulk, Brown as Yelena, and Orange as Red Guardian. The packs are in stores now in several sizes and varieties (Milk Chocolate, Minis, Peanut, Peanut Butter), and a Walmart-exclusive Doctor Doom pack features Yellow as Doom. A sweepstakes opens October 15 via a QR code on each pack or online, with prizes including Disney Cruise Line tickets. Marvel Confirms DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Ends With Third Season

At its NYCC 2026 Marvel Television and Marvel Animation panel on October 8, Marvel confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will end with season three, which is due on Disney+ in March 2027. The decision follows a sharp drop in viewership, reportedly about half, between seasons one and two per Luminate, and the departure of showrunner Dario Scardapane during season three's post-production. Season two ended with Matt Murdock being taken to prison. The panel also confirmed that season three will formally reunite the Defenders. Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand) appeared on stage, while Mike Colter couldn't attend but returns as Luke Cage. Disney to License Several High-Profile Titles to Netflix

Per a Variety report, Disney has struck a licensing deal to put a large batch of its titles on Netflix, including all five Ice Age movies, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Pixar's Elio and Soul, and catalog series like Felicity, Arrested Development, and Scandal. Disney's strategy is to reach Netflix's roughly 325 million households, hoping viewers who enjoy these titles will go on to subscribe to Disney+. Availability will vary by region, the titles will likely stay on Netflix only temporarily, and bigger Disney Animation and Pixar properties will probably remain Disney+ exclusives in North America. No Marvel or Star Wars titles appear in this batch, and the rollout is expected over the next few months. STAR TREK's Gates McFadden to Write Dr. Crusher Comic in 2027

Gates McFadden, who played Dr. Beverly Crusher, will write Star Trek: Crusher, a limited comic series from IDW with art by Megan Levens and colors by Charlie Kirchoff, due in 2027 around TNG's 40th anniversary. It will cover the roughly 20-year gap between Star Trek: Nemesis and Picard season three, when Beverly left Starfleet, ran humanitarian medical missions, and raised her son Jack alone.
