Welcome to the jungle of music explorations. We start off with a little discipline to make the world order lay down at our feet, so we can rest shortly while escaping into this stunning hour of music from the force of nature that is Brazil. Rainforests, indigenous people and selfmade instruments is some of the surprising elements of this months pod. The black women making gestures towards balance and we all go shopping for a little voodoo. May east and west sing together “sem teto” which means without a roof. We go to the Alto Ribeira and hear tuned in humans play music in the water with jugs and DIY flutes. All in all: music with reflections from the land of dreams.

Welcome to the Space Machine.

Tonight we're celebrating Danish Electronica—more specifically, Gen 1.0 of the genre: the underground kids with curious minds who couldn’t help experimenting with sound, challenging machines and effects, and trying things out just to see what might happen. The “wrong” way may be the most interesting way of all. It’s the sound, the energy, the feeling that matters. No one cares about rules or limitations. We want to escape into sound. We want to take a trip to the universe. We celebrate both those who were and those who are. This is an extended episode, and the theme was chosen after losing our third colleague in just a few years. All of them were far too young to go. Each had carved out their own path in the electronica scene. All were quirky, original characters with a never-ending passion for creating music.

With this episode, I also want to celebrate those of us who are still here, still making sound, still searching for ways to express a feeling and pay the rent. This music never had a mainstream market. It remained underground until it found its way into the consciousness of certain listeners—becoming a discovery, an inspiration, a world of its own.

It's the beginning of summer and up north we can still see the aurora waving its neon green curtains, during the few hours of darkness that we have at this time of year. The sweet voice of a nightingale is sampled and played as we launch into the night until dawn chorus appears. We slow down our thoughts with a steady grace. Music is talking to us like an early bird of lush sound and song. The soul is a bird, a magical bird. We go through bells and birds and steel pans from Tobago. Imagine having wings and going south every winter, like a balsam for the soul, soaking up the sun. Just like the nightjar.
