In each episode, we dive deep into the rich history of The Beatles — their extraordinary lives, timeless music, and the places they called home. From the modest Liverpool houses where John, Paul, George, and Ringo grew up, to the grand estates and country manors they lived in during the height of their fame, we explore how their homes shaped their stories, inspired their songwriting, and became the backdrop for some of the most iconic moments in music history.

Whether it’s Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road, Kenwood and Cavendish Avenue, or the peaceful countryside retreats like Tittenhurst Park and Friar Park, we step inside these legendary doors to uncover personal stories, family moments, creative breakthroughs, and the everyday realities behind the global phenomenon known as The Beatles.

  • Brian Epstein. Part 03: The Price of It All
    Oct 27 2026

“Brian Epstein. Part 03: The Price of It All” is a Beatles history story from Beatle People Cafe.

In our final episode on Brian Epstein, we look behind the polished suits and brilliant smile at the private man who spent his entire adult life living under a law that made his sexuality a crime—until the Sexual Offences Act finally legalized private relationships between adult men on 27 July 1967, exactly one month before he was found dead at thirty-two in the locked bedroom of his Belgravia townhouse.

We trace the loneliness and constant risk of exposure that shadowed every triumph, from an early blackmail attempt and his intense, much-rumored attachment to John Lennon, through the glamorous but increasingly empty life of the mid-1960s, heavy gambling, and a growing dependence on pills. By the breaking year of 1966, the Philippines disaster, the “more popular than Jesus” controversy, and the end of live touring left Brian feeling suddenly unneeded as the band retreated into the studio.

Following his declining health and spirits, the death of his father, and the accidental overdose that ended his life, we examine the aftermath: the Beatles’ stunned reaction, their troubled attempts to manage themselves, the eventual breakup, and the gradual rehabilitation of Brian’s reputation as the man who believed in them when no one else would—the fifth Beatle who spent his short life making others shine while never quite able to step into the light himself.

  • Brian Epstein. Part 02: The Man Who Made the Beatles
    Oct 26 2026

“Brian Epstein. Part 02: The Man Who Made the Beatles” is a Beatles history story from Beatle People Cafe.

In Episode Two, we follow Brian Epstein as he signs a management contract with the band in January 1962—without signing it himself, so the boys could walk away if they chose—and sets about polishing them into something the wider world would accept. Out went the eating, smoking, and swearing on stage; in came proper set lists, synchronized bows, and matching mohair suits that John Lennon would later grumble had softened their Hamburg edge.

Despite rejections from Decca and nearly every other major label in London, Brian kept knocking on doors until a chance connection at an HMV record shop on Oxford Street led him to George Martin at Parlophone, who finally signed them. Along the way, we cover the sudden death of Stuart Sutcliffe, the painful firing of Pete Best so Ringo Starr could join, the modest chart climb of “Love Me Do,” the explosive success of “Please Please Me” and the marathon one-day recording of their debut album, and Brian’s rapid expansion into managing other Merseybeat acts like Gerry and the Pacemakers and Cilla Black while building an early version of a modern fan brand.

By late 1963, Beatlemania was in full swing—from the London Palladium and the Royal Variety Performance (complete with John’s famous jewelry joke) to the conquest of America on The Ed Sullivan Show. Yet we also examine the costly business mistakes behind the scenes, including a disastrous merchandising deal that gave away ninety percent of the profits, before ending on the sobering note that even at the height of his triumph, the man in the beautiful suit remained unhappy, carrying private burdens that would come due in the final episode.

  • Brian Epstein. Part 01: The Boy Who Didn’t Fit
    Oct 26 2026

“Brian Epstein. Part 01: The Boy Who Didn’t Fit” is a Beatles history story from Beatle People Cafe.

We step back to a gray November lunchtime in 1961 as a meticulously dressed 27-year-old Brian Epstein leaves his family’s NEMS record shop on Whitechapel and descends eighteen damp stone steps into the Cavern Club. Down in that hot, smoky cellar, four leather-clad, sandwich-eating, joke-cracking young men named John, Paul, George, and Pete are tearing through raw rock and roll—and Brian knows the moment he sees them that he has found what he was looking for.

To understand how a shy, well-mannered furniture salesman’s son who never quite fit ended up captivated by that sweaty cellar, we trace Brian’s story from his Lithuanian-Jewish immigrant roots and the prosperous Epstein family business through a childhood marked by seven or eight different schools, antisemitism, and a longing to design dresses rather than sell sideboards. From a brief, unhappy stint in National Service to three terms at RADA in London, Brian discovered he was far more interested in the staging and presentation of stars than in standing in the spotlight himself.

Back in Liverpool running the booming NEMS record department, restless and bored despite his success, Brian is drawn into the city’s explosive beat scene and the lingering mystery of the “My Bonnie” request—and whether Raymond Jones ever really walked into his shop—before returning again and again to the Cavern, sensing something in the chaotic, charismatic Beatles that every sensible person around him thought was madness to manage.
