  • Gingerbread-Blonde Wigs and Magical Chiffon Capes in Bewitched (2005)
    Nov 3 2025

Costume design breakdown of Bewitched (2005) starring Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, and Shirley MacLaine — directed by Nora Ephron and costume design by Mary Zophres.

We're wrapping up Freaky Witch Month with the sweetest sorceress in suburbia: Bewitched (2005)! Nicole Kidman stars as Isabel Bigelow, a real-life witch trying to live a normal life, opposite Will Ferrell's egomaniac TV actor in Nora Ephron's meta rom-com remake of the '60s classic. Costume designer Mary Zophres (La La Land, The Big Lebowski) serves up vintage-meets-Y2K whimsy with cardigans, pastel skirts, and preppy capri pants that turn Kidman into the anti–Practical Magic witch — sweet, soft, and suburban.

But the real style icon is Shirley MacLaine as Iris/Endora — a walking Technicolor spell in chiffon, feathers, and finger-loop capes! She's an old-Hollywood witchcore vision draped in 20 yards of fabric and pure chaos, the kind of diva smoke show only Shirley could pull off.

In this episode, we chat about:

Mary Zophres's flirty, feminine, and timeless designs

Nicole Kidman's demure 2000s-meets-1960s wardrobe evolution

Shirley MacLaine's over-the-top "murder robes" and real-life witchy vibes

Manifesting a Bewitched remake starring Pedro Pascal

    Segment Highlights:

    • Mary Zophres's credits and inspo

    • Top Looks and trivia

    • Add to Cart: the fashion moments that made us want to shop

    Bonus tangents include:

Marie's coven-themed birthday dinner, Blaire getting babysat by Shirley MacLaine, and a spontaneous deep dive into 2000s remakes no one asked for (but we kind of love).

  • Cursed Buttons and Corporate Blouses in Drag Me to Hell (2009)
    Oct 27 2025

This week, we're diving into the gloriously gross horror of Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell (2009), the ultimate cautionary tale about ambition, where one wrong decision will get you promoted to HELL! Costume designer Isis Mussenden (The Chronicles of Narnia, American Psycho) dresses loan officer Christine (Alison Lohman) in prim pencil skirts and promotion-ready blouses along with Mrs. Ganush's witchcore chic of scarves and handkerchiefs. Plus, we talk early-2000s horror aesthetics, animatronic goats, and why Christine's downfall might just be the most stylish damnation ever put on screen.

In this episode, we chat about:

    • Isis Mussenden's inspirations and early-2000s horror palette

    • Christine's corporate-to-cursed costume evolution

    • Mrs. Ganush's grotesque glam and "witch weapon" styling

    • The symbolism of that cursed button

    • Our "Add to Cart" picks: cursed accessories edition

    Bonus tangents include:

    • Marie's old life working in a bank and her own finance fashion choices (minus the curses)

    • Charmed and Buffy — the Halliwell Sisters get their shoutout

    • Marie's crazy purse collection and "purse of the day" ...and more!

  • Brooches, Bangs, & Deranged Auntie Energy in Weapons (2025)
    Oct 20 2025

Freaky witch month continues! Smear some red lipstick and snap some twigs because we're worshipping at the altar of Gladys, Amy Madigan's instantly iconic nightmare auntie in Weapons (2025). Costume designer Trish Summerville outfits her like a 1970s thrift witch in oversized tinted glasses, plastic baubles, and the kind of chaotic color-clashing that can give you anxiety (in a good way). We unpack her intense microbangs and ritual props, praise her brooch game, and discuss why she deserves a prequel. Then, we get into conspiracy theories about her Madonna Inn-print carpet bag! We also discuss Marie's visit to the Showgirls Museum in Vegas. Tune in now!

  • Runway Hexes and Witchy Statement Coats in Beastly (2011)
    Oct 13 2025

Embrace the suck! We're hexing high-schoolers this week with Beastly, a 2010s retelling of the fable Beauty and the Beast starring Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens. Costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb conjured up typical 2010s teen looks for the leads, but the real style star is Kendra, Mary-Kate Olsen's couture witch who curses Pettyfer's golden boy and steals the movie with her fashion goth looks. Whether it's sculptural coats, veiled top hats, or caged heels, she's giving runway occult and we're loving every minute of it. We break down every look this witch gives and also discuss the cybergoth-esque, "modern beast" makeup. Other topics include embracing Halloween consumerism culture, Marie's issue with casting hot men as monsters (see Nosferatu, Frankenstein) and the Olsen Twins' iconic Y2K style. Tune in now!

  • Velcro Skirts and Dinosaur Hair Clips in Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985)
    Sep 8 2025

Put on your side ponytail and get ready to dance, because we're rewinding to the ultimate VHS slumber party/ KTLA classic: Girls Just Want to Have Fun! This post-Footloose, pre-Dirty Dancing gem stars a baby Sarah Jessica Parker as Janey, an army brat with a dream of joining Dance TV, and Helen Hunt as her rebellious BFF Lynn — aka our surprise style ICON.

Costume designer Betty Pecha Madden delivered 1980s teen movie fashion gold, from velcro tearaway tartan schoolgirl skirts and Adidas kicks to Lynn's unforgettable collection of hair accessories (stegosaurus clips, rainbow feet barrettes, raccoon hats, a grasshopper pillbox hat, and even a Cinderella rat crown). We break down all the campy, '80s looks and dive into the film's stacked cast (hello, Gina Gershon and maybe Robert Downey Jr.?!), and the underrated soundtrack. Dancin' in Heaven!

  • Suits on Suits and Hypebeast Glam with 'The Studio' Costume Designer Kameron Lennox
    Aug 26 2025

This week, Marie is joined by Emmy-nominated costume designer Kameron Lennox to talk about dressing the cast of The Studio! Kameron breaks down the inspiration behind Matt's (Seth Rogen) never-repeat custom suits, Sal Saperstein's (Ike Barinholtz) sleazy-chic lapels, and the bold color palettes that distinguish each character. We also get into Patty's (Catherine O'Hara) regal Max Mara–inspired looks, Quinn's (Chase Sui Wonders) vintage-infused wardrobe (including some of Kameron's own pieces!), and of course, the wild, sartorial chaos of Kathryn Hahn's character, Maya!

From sourcing fabrics in Italy to pulling a Galliano gown for Zoe Kravitz, Kameron shares how she blended present-day style with Old Hollywood glam to make the show's world feel both timeless and fashion-forward. Plus, we chat about her work on Platonic, our shared obsession with brooches, whether or not Maya would accessorize with Labubus in season 2 (had to), and more!

Follow Kameron on Instagram and tune into the Emmy-nominated (23 nominations!) The Studio on Apple TV!

  • From Von Dutch to Von Furstenberg in Freaky Friday (2003)
    Aug 11 2025

We're in early-2000s Los Angeles with Freaky Friday! When a rebellious teen (Lindsay Lohan) and her uptight mom (Jamie Lee Curtis) swap bodies, they also swap styles—from studded belts, raglan tees, and guitar-pick chokers to a now-iconic boho patchwork Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress with knee-high suede boots. Costume designer Genevieve Tyrrell (Swingers, Go) put our favorite Pink Slip queen in studded belts, cargo pants, raglan tees, and chunky highlights, then turns up JLC's glam with that now-iconic boho patchwork DVF dress, knee-high suede boots, and a pixie cut that screams "rich mom in Laurel Canyon." We relive the era's Avril Lavigne vibes, chunky highlights, and Von Dutch sightings, plus all the LA nostalgia (RIP House of Blues). Tune in and meet us at Third Street Promenade!
