  • why are we so afraid of looking stupid?
    Nov 5 2026

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly is asking a question we've probably all thought about: when did we become so embarrassed to just be ourselves?

after rediscovering her love of halloween, dressing up and having fun for the sake of it, nikki has been thinking about why we've become so obsessed with looking cool, appearing effortless and pretending not to care. from apologising for the things we love to making ourselves the punchline before anyone else gets the chance, she explores how insecurity and the fear of being judged can stop us from enjoying the things that make us who we are.

nikki opens up about her own tendency to overthink every interaction, the pressure of seeing herself through an imaginary audience, and why growing up having to deal with serious things has sometimes made it difficult to embrace the silly ones.

she also explores the psychology of embarrassment, the spotlight effect and why being earnest, enthusiastic and a little bit ridiculous might actually be much cooler than pretending not to care.

if you've ever pretended not to like something or spent an entire evening replaying something slightly awkward you said, this one's for you.

  • what does it actually mean to belong?
    Oct 29 2026

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly opens up about a feeling she's carried for as long as she can remember: being an outsider, even when she's surrounded by people.

growing up in and out of hospital, nikki missed out on many of the seemingly ordinary childhood experiences that bring people together: sleepovers, school clubs, inside jokes and the everyday moments that turn acquaintances into lifelong friends. she reflects on how that shaped the way she navigates relationships today, from constantly second-guessing herself and masking to fit in, to feeling like she's watching everyone else's lives through a glass wall.

nikki explores the grief of missing out on a childhood she never got to experience, why we don't have to romanticise everything difficult we've been through, and how she's learning to find a sense of belonging as an adult.

because maybe belonging isn't about learning how to fit into everyone else's world. maybe it's about finding the people you can finally be yourself around.

if you've ever felt like an outsider, struggled to feel part of a group, or grieved experiences you never got to have, this one’s for you.

  • why do we love things that make us sad?
    Oct 22 2026

on this episode of live a little, nikki lilly is exploring a question she’s been thinking about for years: why do we love things that make us sad?

from listening to devastating songs on repeat to watching films that leave us emotionally destroyed... there’s something strangely comforting about choosing to feel sad. nikki opens up about her own complicated relationship with sadness, why happiness can sometimes feel unfamiliar, and how the emotions we know best aren’t always the ones we want to live in.

nikki explores why certain songs and films make us feel so deeply understood, the bittersweet ache of nostalgia, and why sometimes a sad ending feels more honest than a happy one. she also reflects on the fine line between finding comfort in art that makes us feel seen and getting caught in a cycle that leaves us feeling worse.

because maybe we don’t actually love being sad. maybe we love being moved, finding the words for feelings we couldn’t explain, and realising that someone else, somewhere, understands.

if you’ve ever felt more connected to a sad song than a happy one or cried over a memory you wish you could relive, this one’s for you.
