  • S12 | E10 Telling Your Partner You're Bisexual: What If It Goes Well?
    Oct 19 2026

What happens when you tell your partner you're bisexual and it goes well?

A lot of conversations about bisexuality and coming out understandably focus on fear, conflict, rejection and relationship difficulties. But that isn't everyone's experience.

In this video, I share five real experiences of bisexual people telling their partners, including stories of acceptance, relief, greater intimacy and relationships that continued to thrive.

I also look at why telling a partner can feel so frightening beforehand, what the experience might be like for the person being told, and why coming out doesn't have to be one dramatic event.

We also explore an important question: do you need to tell your partner, or anyone else, if you're genuinely comfortable with your bisexual identity and your relationship?

There isn't one bisexual experience. Some people realise early, some later. Some tell everyone, some tell one person, and some choose to keep it private. Some explore their bisexuality, while others choose monogamy because their relationship matters more to them.

Perhaps sometimes the question isn't “What if it goes wrong?” but: What if it goes well?

  • S12 | E9 Is there an advantage to being a male therapist?
    Oct 4 2026

Is there an advantage to being a male therapist? It's a question I've been asked a number of times, and after around 15 years working as a therapist, I have quite a few thoughts about it.

Psychotherapy is a profession that is overwhelmingly female, so does being a man give male therapists an advantage? Are there particular reasons why some people actively choose a male therapist? And are there things about working with men that male therapists may bring a different perspective to?

In this video I talk about my own experience of training as one of only a few men in my cohort, why some women have specifically chosen to work with me because I'm a man, my experience of working with male clients, and some of the assumptions and expectations we can have about men, women, masculinity and femininity.

I also explore some of the challenges that can arise when men struggle with vulnerability, emotional intimacy or talking about feelings, and why I don't think we should lower our expectations of men when it comes to emotional awareness.

Ultimately, I don't think being male automatically makes someone a better therapist. But I do think there can be advantages and disadvantages depending on the client, the therapist and the relationship and that having more men in psychotherapy could bring something valuable to the profession.

I'd really like to hear your experience. Are you a male or female therapist? Have you ever specifically chosen a therapist because of their gender? Or do you think gender makes very little difference to the therapeutic relationship?

  • S12 | E9 Bisexuality, Marriage & Crisis: A Couples Therapist Explains
    Sep 28 2026

In this conversation, I talk to therapist Dr Josh Gebhardt about three important questions that can arise when bisexuality intersects with relationships.

What happens when a partner comes out as bisexual? How can you support the partner who is processing that news? And what are some of the myths, assumptions and stigma that bisexual men can face?

Josh has particular expertise in working with couples where bisexuality, coming out, sexuality, trust and identity have become sources of significant distress or conflict. We talk about what can happen when one partner comes out, including the fears, uncertainty and grief that a straight partner may experience, and how couples can begin to navigate very different needs and expectations.

We also discuss mixed-orientation relationships, sexual boundaries, infidelity and trust, pornography, shame and sexual identity, and some of the different ways bisexual men and bisexual women can be perceived. Josh also talks about his work supporting women whose husbands or partners have come out as bisexual or gay.

Importantly, bisexuality is not inherently a relationship problem. Many bisexual people are in happy, loving and fulfilling relationships. Being bisexual does not mean that someone is less capable of loving their partner, is necessarily unhappy in their relationship, or wants to leave it. This conversation focuses particularly on situations where bisexuality has become part of a relationship crisis, while recognising the much wider range of experiences of bisexual people and couples.

Josh is a therapist who works extensively with couples and relationships, including people navigating bisexuality and mixed-orientation relationships.

This conversation is part of my ongoing series exploring bisexuality, identity, relationships and what it means to navigate sexual identity within a long-term relationship. Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/show/VLPLEZFrC4g0W2o?sbp=QAE%3D
