On July 1, 1981, four people were brutally murdered inside a house on Wonderland Avenue in the Hollywood Hills. The crime scene was so gruesome that investigators compared it to the infamous Manson murders.

At the center of the investigation was John Holmes, once one of the most recognizable names in the adult film industry. By 1981, his life had spiraled into drug addiction, desperate financial circumstances, and dangerous associations with figures in the Los Angeles criminal underworld.

What began as a robbery involving notorious nightclub owner and drug dealer Eddie Nash would lead to one of the most savage multiple murders in Hollywood history.

But what role did John Holmes actually play? Was he a participant, an unwilling accomplice, or a man caught between two dangerous worlds?

In this episode of Hollywood Horrors, we investigate the Wonderland murders, the criminal underworld of 1980s Los Angeles, the evidence surrounding Holmes, and the unanswered questions that continue to haunt the case more than four decades later.

On the night of November 28, 1981, actress Natalie Wood boarded the yacht Splendour off the coast of Southern California with her husband, Robert Wagner, and her Brainstorm co-star Christopher Walken. By morning, one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars was dead.

Wood’s body was found floating in the waters off Catalina Island, wearing a nightgown, socks, and a down jacket. Her death was initially ruled an accidental drowning. But questions about what happened aboard the Splendour that night never disappeared.

Conflicting accounts, reports of an argument, questions surrounding the yacht’s dinghy, and injuries documented on Wood’s body would keep the case alive for decades. In 2011, authorities reopened the investigation. The following year, her cause of death was amended to “drowning and other undetermined factors.”

More than four decades later, Natalie Wood’s final hours remain the subject of extraordinary scrutiny.

In this episode of Hollywood Horrors, we reconstruct the final night aboard the Splendour, examine the evidence and conflicting accounts, and explore why the death of Natalie Wood remains one of Hollywood’s most enduring mysteries.
