In 1980, Dorothy Stratten seemed to have everything Hollywood promised. At just twenty years old, she had gone from working at a Dairy Queen in Vancouver to becoming Playboy’s Playmate of the Year, appearing in films, and attracting the attention of some of the most powerful people in Hollywood.

But behind her rapid rise was a relationship becoming increasingly dangerous.

Paul Snider had discovered Stratten when she was still a teenager and helped introduce her to the world that would eventually make her famous. He became her husband, her manager, and an increasingly controlling presence in her life. As Dorothy’s career grew and she began building a life beyond him, their relationship started to unravel.

On August 14, 1980, Dorothy agreed to meet Snider at the Los Angeles home they had once shared.

Hours later, both were dead.

In this episode of Hollywood Horrors, we trace Dorothy Stratten’s extraordinary rise, her complicated relationship with Paul Snider, her romance with director Peter Bogdanovich, the jealousy and obsession surrounding the final months of her life, and the murder that ended one of Hollywood’s most promising young careers.

It is a story about beauty, ambition, control, and the darker side of the Hollywood dream.

This is Dorothy Stratten: Beauty, Obsession, and Murder.
