  • Weapons
    Apr 9 2026

In this episode, we’re discussing Zach Cregger's 2025 movie, Weapons. The film readily serves as a cathartic allegory about addictions – particularly, substance addiction – and how these addictions are maladaptive attempts to deal with pain.

But addiction doesn’t get the last word; there is hope for those in recovery.

We talk about the importance of a loving, supportive community in the road to recovery; more importantly, we talk about why the Christian gospel is the greater story that breaks addiction’s oppressive spell of shame and guilt – and truly sets us free.

    Nov 27 2025

In this episode, we're joined by missionary Mark Parsons of Truth in Love Ministries to discuss the 2024 film, Heretic.

Mark brings a ton of insight from his experiences ministering to current and ex-Mormons - and we really enjoyed chatting with him about the way the film treats conflicts of faith-verses-doubt and rationality-verses-spirituality.

  • Event Horizon
    Aug 13 2025

In this episode, we’re talking about the 1997 sci-fi horror film Event Horizon, directed by Paul Anderson and written by Philip Eisner. This movie evokes common human fears of coming face to face with what we most regret in life – with brutality incarnate, and even with hell itself. We’re eager to tell you why the content of the good news of Jesus is the direct answer to these dark fears.

  • Hereditary
    Jul 10 2025

In this episode, we’re taking a closer look at Hereditary, written and directed by Ari Aster. Hereditary is a story that hauntingly highlights generational trauma, how the sins of the past still plague us in the present, and the staying power of our guilt. The story of Hereditary shows how humanity hasn’t merely inherited the problems of other people’s sin: that we have inherited a sinful nature means we’re part of the problem. Were the redemption of our lives to depend on how well we could rewrite our past, our stories would tragically remain defined by our trauma and guilt.

Fortunately, the good news of Jesus outstays the staying power of our trauma and guilt; the gospel promises us a present and future where we, in Christ, are defined as children of God and heirs of Christ’s victory over death, hell, and our trauma and guilt.

We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did!

In this episode, we’re taking a deeper look at David Cronenberg’s 1986 body horror hit, The Fly, staring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis.

Join us for a conversation about how progress and ambition are interrupted by more essential passions - and how Christ gives us something more beautiful to aspire to than simply trying to become better versions of ourselves. Hope you tune in to catch what it is!

  • Nosferatu
    Jan 30 2025

In this episode, we're taking a deep look at the 2024 remake of Nosferatu, written and directed by Robert Eggers.

This American Gothic horror film graphically depicts the way our own dark desires can bring us under the oppressive and pursuing power of shame and disgrace.

Listen for the contrast of the film's description escaping this power and what freedom from the power of darkness we have in the gospel. Music by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio

  • Krampus
    Dec 23 2024

In this Christmas Special, we’re taking a closer look at the 2015 Christmas horror/comedy, Krampus.

Pastor Mike and Pastor Sam discuss how Christmas traditions, like the story of Krampus, perpetuate a cycle of guilt and anxiety over our behavior – and how the message of Christ’s cross is entirely different, and infinitely better.

We hope you walk away from this conversation with a lot to be comforted by and rejoice in this Christmas.
