    In this episode we are in Jeremiah 29. We examine one verse in particular that is often taken out of context and used to make a point that the text simply isn’t making. Then we look at the words of 2 false prophets in Jeremiah’s day by the name of Ahab and Zedekiah. These 2 men teach us that false teaching usually accompanies false living. From here we ask ourselves some important questions: Am I listening to false teaching that will lead me to false living? Or am I paying careful attention to what God says?

From children, to a rich man, to his disciples, and finally to a blind man, we see Jesus always have something to say. But who do we identify with the most out of these interactions? Are we humble in the way we receive Jesus? Do we have too much to let go and so we don’t follow Jesus? Or are we willing to admit our need for help and ready to let go of the things we are attached to?

Jesus will also tell this church that he is standing at the door and knocking. Can our churches today be like this one? What can we be doing to make Jesus feel this same way about us?

Jesus tells this church about an open door in front of them, which immediately reminds us of other Bible verses regarding open doors. However, when we stay in the context of Revelation 3 we understand what Jesus means by an “open door”.

This church had some good things going for them, but has laid down when it came to the influence of false teachers around them. Instead of kicking out these harmful teachers, they have tolerated them. What does this tell us about the standard of teaching in our churches today? What do we do when someone starts teaching what is false?
