• Structural vs. Situational Not-Self: Why Your Human Design Deconditioning Timeline Isn't One-Size-Fits-All
    Sep 15 2026

In this episode of the Ecocentric Human Design podcast, host Jamie Palmer — a 3/5 Triple Split Projector and founder of HD Wild — tackles a distinction most human design education skips entirely: the difference between structural (chronic) not-self and situational not-self.

Jamie opens with her own story: after stumbling into human design in 2019 while running a marketing agency, she realized she had spent roughly 17 years operating as a Projector living like a Generator — constantly doing, producing, and delivering, until burnout forced a reckoning. That experience is now the throughline for how she teaches deconditioning inside HD Wild, her practitioner training and certification program running since 2022.

The episode walks through the two categories in depth. Structural not-self is a default, chronic state of dysregulation — not an occasional detour, but a person's actual operating baseline, often showing up as burnout, perfectionism, excuses, or waffling. It follows recognizable type-based patterns (Projectors acting like Generators, Generators acting like Manifestors, and so on) and cannot be resolved quickly; it requires a genuine reckoning, inner-child work, and time, often measured in years rather than weeks.

Situational not-self, by contrast, happens to someone who has already done that deeper work. They know what a regulated decision feels like in their body, but a specific trigger — FOMO, comparison, an old “should” — knocks them temporarily off center. Because they have a felt sense of their baseline, they can typically notice the pattern and return to it with far more ease.

Jamie connects this directly to a broader concern: because the human design industry has no shared standard of practice, practitioners at wildly different levels of depth are all offering “deconditioning support” without distinguishing between these two fundamentally different needs. She's addressing this head-on inside HD Wild by training practitioners in distinct protocols for each category — including a dedicated “Not Self Day” happening in November.

Whether you're a practitioner trying to better serve your clients, or you're personally trying to understand why some patterns feel so much harder to shift than others, this episode offers a clear, practical framework for telling the two apart.

    In this episode:

    • The difference between structural and situational not-self, explained simply

    • Why “not-self” actually has seven distinct presentations, not one

    • Jamie's personal story of 17 years operating outside her design

    • Why a standard 6–12 week deconditioning container doesn't work for everyone

    • A first look at the upcoming Not Self Day inside HD Wild

  • Ecocentric Human Design Generator Type Explained
    Mar 6 2026

In this Ecocentric HD Podcast from the HD Wild sessions, Jamie Palmer goes deep into the Generator type — beyond the "just respond" advice and into the somatic reality of what it means to be disconnected from the sacral. Jamie explains how the sacral actually works (including the nuance of which centers are filtering the response), introduces the concept of the plateau of frustration as a navigation signal, covers the hidden not-self patterns of overthinking and energetic stagnation, and walks through the Coming Back to Life resonance activity — a slow, body-centered practice for rebuilding sacral trust.

  • Ecocentric Human Design Manifestor Type Explained
    Mar 6 2026

n this HD Wild session, Jamie Palmer unpacks the Manifestor type beyond the standard anger narrative — exploring the internalized not-self patterns of shrinkage, people-pleasing, and guilt that many Manifestors carry. • Why informing is training wheels, not the end goal for Manifestor relationships

    • The Heading Into the Storm resonance activity: a step-by-step somatic practice

    • How to help clients pause and notice activation signals before they act

  • Trauma Through the Lens of Types: What Deconditioning Actually Requires (And Why Self-Care Isn't Enough)
    Mar 6 2026

In this session from HD Wild, Jamie Palmer makes the case that deconditioning isn't just a spiritual concept — it's a nervous system process rooted in the same patterns as complex, lowercase-t trauma. Jamie introduces the most common nervous system states in deconditioning work (functional freeze and fawn), explains why abandoning ship is a nervous system response rather than a rational decision, and introduces two original concepts: post-traumatic shrinkage and post-traumatic growth. This is practitioner-level content designed to help HD coaches meet clients where they actually are.

    What You'll Learn:

    • Why complex trauma and deconditioning share the same nervous system patterns

    • The difference between self-care and somatic deconditioning — and why practitioners need to know this distinction

    • The three nervous system states (ventral, sympathetic, dorsal) and what each looks like in clients

    • What "abandoning ship" is, why clients do it, and how to recognize it in your sessions

    • Post-traumatic shrinkage vs. post-traumatic growth — and which types/profiles tend toward each

    • How to support clients through the commitment tests that come as deconditioning deepens

    • Why the work done in the coaching container doesn't count until it works in the wild

  • Ecocentric Human Design Projector Type Explained

    • Why equitable recognition is more foundational to Projector success than the invitation

    • The hidden not-self theme beneath bitterness — and why so many Projectors get stuck in a shame spiral

    • Why Projectors can only see themselves through the other (and what that means for their relational health)

    • The difference between the hyperactivated and hypoactivated Projector not-self states

    • How to guide clients through the Story of Three States exercise

    • Practical tips for choosing a different narrative before the survival story takes hold

  • The Art & Science of Reading a Human Design Chart
    Feb 27 2026

🧪 The Test Tube Problem with Human Design

Most people teach Human Design like a chemistry class—neat little test tubes, each component perfectly isolated. Here's your type. Here's your profile. Here's your authority. Analyze each piece separately, memorize the definitions, move on.

But here's what that approach misses: The magic doesn't happen in the test tubes. It happens in the beaker when all those components pour together and react.

You are the beaker. And when everything—your type, profile, channels, line placements, lived experiences, trauma, nervous system patterns—pours into that container, that's when the real work begins.

In this episode, Jamie Palmer dives deep into the art and science of Human Design chart synthesis, sharing why the parts don't exist without the whole and how to truly understand a chart beyond memorizing gate definitions.

    WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

✨ Why Same Type ≠ Same Life How three emotional energy projectors with the same type can have completely different purposes, businesses, and life expressions based on their profiles, circuitry, and line placements.

✨ The Hidden Power of Line Placements Why a 3/5 with 12 first-line placements might show up more like a 1/3—and what this means for understanding your own chart.

✨ The Trauma Layer Where trauma actually shows up in your chart (most symptoms present in undefined centers, but the root often comes from defined centers) and how lived experiences impact your design expression.

✨ Transactional vs Relational HD Work The massive problem in the HD space around relationship context, and why we don't need more chart readers—we need practitioners who help people integrate and embody their design.

✨ The Art of Holding Space What it really means to hold space as an HD practitioner, including checking your bias, knowing your triggers, and maintaining regulation in the container.

✨ Regulation in the Container Why your aura speaks for you before you ever open your mouth, and how to reel in the emotional rollercoaster when you need to show up for clients.

Whether you're exploring your own Human Design or working with clients as a practitioner, this episode will fundamentally shift how you approach chart reading—from dissecting isolated parts to synthesizing the whole human.
