  • Episode 1: Dyslexia - An Introduction, with Geetha Raghavan
    Jan 19 2023

In Episode 1: Dyslexia - An Introduction, Geetha Raghavan, a special educator who has been working with dyslexic children for close to three decades explains how dyslexia was perceived in our country thirty years ago and how our understanding of the condition has progressed since then.

Geetha Raghavan refers to The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis, which I read when my daughter was first assessed for dyslexia more than a decade ago. I also believe that dyslexic people have innate advantages because of their dyslexia which other non-dyslexic people don't have. The concept that people with dyslexia succeed because of their dyslexia and not despite it, completely blew my mind. In their pathbreaking book Dyslexic Advantage the doctors Brock Eide and Fernette Eide explain how dyslexic advantage works. A third book which has also helped me understand dyslexia in order to help my daughter is Overcoming Dyslexia by Sally Shaywitz.
