  • Agnes Judith Goppinger, *Moribus Antiquis Res Stat Iudaea Virisque: Exempla in Flavius Josephus' Antiquitates Iudaicae*. Leiden: Brill, 2026
    Oct 13 2026

Josephus' Antiquities offers a thoughtful and detailed exploration of Jewish history, tracing its arc from the world's origins to the outbreak of the Jewish War. Yet we might pause to consider a meaningful question: whose stories truly shape this historical record? This examination compassionately investigates how Josephus portrayed Moses, David, Judas Maccabee, and Agrippa I, recognizing how he drew upon Roman exempla as his literary framework. In doing so, Josephus crafted these four Jewish leaders in ways that honored both Roman structural and formal conventions while authentically preserving their deeply Jewish identity. Through this nuanced approach, Josephus achieves something remarkable—he not only demonstrates that Jewish exemplary figures deserve recognition equal to their Roman counterparts, but he ultimately surpasses Roman achievements in their celebrated domains of superiority, enduring legacy, and unwavering moral integrity.

  • Shawn Zelig Aster, *Reflections of Empire in Isaiah 1-39: Responses to Assyrian Ideology*. Atlanta: SBL Press, 2017.
    Oct 13 2026

Shawn Zelig Aster's monograph establishes a compelling connection between First Isaiah's prophecies and the eighth century BCE historical landscape, when Assyrian power dominated the ancient Near East. Through meticulous analysis of Isaiah 1–2, 6–8, 10–12, 14, 19, 31, and 36–37, Aster exposes how these passages deliver a sophisticated challenge to Assyrian imperial propaganda. He reveals that Isaiah strategically employs Assyrian propagandistic motifs while systematically dismantling their claims of absolute supremacy, demonstrating that the prophet's ultimate purpose is to strengthen belief in a transcendent, omnipotent God whose authority eclipses any mortal empire. This work illuminates the profound meaning embedded within these Isaiah passages while situating them firmly within Judah and Israel's turbulent history spanning 745–701 BCE.

  • Yaacov Maoz, *Jerusalem and Nineveh: The Renewal of Aramit-Ashurit in Israel and the Alliance between Israel and Assyria*. Toronto [English Version]: Self-Published by the Author on behalf of *Lishana: Aramit Renewal in Israel*, 2025.
    Oct 12 2026

This is the first time a work has been produced to jointly document the history of the Assyrian Christian and Jewish peoples. The two civilizations occupy positions within a restricted collection of peoples whose endeavors and achievements fundamentally altered the course of human civilization. The domains of archaeological investigation, religious observance, ethnic composition, hereditary inheritance, cultural expression, and linguistic systems within these societies remain fundamentally interconnected. This publication reveals numerous unexpected discoveries concerning biblical historical narratives. It substantiates the claim that "Aramit-Ashurit" operates as the secondary sacred language of the Jewish people, and it documents the extensive and pervasive presence of Assyrian civilization throughout Jewish religious heritage. The work pursues the objective of safeguarding the living spoken form of Jewish Aramit, and therefore emphasizes the critical necessity of eliminating the widespread false claim asserting that Jews from Assyrian regions are ethnically Kurdish and that the Aramit language represents a Kurdish linguistic variant. Throughout numerous centuries, Kurdish authorities systematically perpetrated grave mistreatment against Jewish populations under their rule, subjecting them to conditions resembling slavery, perpetrating kidnappings and sexual violence against Jewish women, and committing persistent acts of robbery and murder directed against Jewish communities. This historical reality has remained largely unrecognized in public awareness, and the present era demands its submission to public scrutiny.
