  • The Dyatlov Pass Incident: Nine Hikers and the Mystery of Dead Mountain
    Oct 19 2026

“The Dyatlov Pass Incident: Nine Hikers and the Mystery of Dead Mountain” is a true crime and strange history deep dive from Strange Nightmares Cafe.

In February 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers led by Igor Dyatlov pitched their tent on the slope of Kholat Syakhl, “Dead Mountain,” in the northern Ural Mountains and were never seen alive again. Searchers found the tent cut open from the inside and the group’s bodies scattered in the snow, some nearly naked, several with severe chest and skull trauma, and a few with missing eyes or tongue.

Soviet investigators blamed a “compelling natural force,” and later probes pointed to a slab avalanche. Yet the bizarre injuries, the hikers’ sudden flight into extreme cold, and lingering unexplained details have kept Dyatlov Pass one of the twentieth century’s most enduring mysteries.

Pour a warm drink and step into the cold with us.
