Our today's guest will go down in history books as a part of a team that has changed cinematography forever. I am talking about the team behind the development of Arri Alexa. A digital camera that, until today, remains the most widely used digital camera in professional film production. And if you were to ask cinematographers why is it that they like Alexa so much. They would declare that it is all to do with Alexa's Color Science that is responsible for that illusive Alexa Filmic Look.

In today's podcast, you will have a unique opportunity to meet the person responsible for this amasing color science. He is going to open his treasure chest and explain how he came up with it and how a rare opportunity that Arri gave him to work on an RnD project later was instrumental in the creation of Arri Alexa.

This is also the right moment to talk to our guest as Arri has just announced the Alexa 35, the most advanced professional cinema camera ever created with 17 stops of dynamic range and with a brand new color science. And you will get a chance to learn many crucial details about the new Arri LogC4.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a great honor to introduce you to Harald Brandel a chief color scientist of Arri.

This is a special edition of Colorist Meetup—one from my vaults. Back in the day, when meetups were in person, we would come after work to Abel Cine, have a glass of wine or a beer, some food, meet up, chit chat, and, like in this podcast, have a special guest.
I never intended to publish these, but having listened to some of these recordings, I have realized that they are vital parts of color grading history and should be shared. In this podcast, you will learn the history of digital intermediate or how computers found their way into film-making. But what you will witness next is not a dry and boring history class. You will hear me and all of the audience laugh a lot. We were not sure if this was a stand-up comedy or color science. Our guest, a two-time academy award winner for his contribution and technical development, came dressed in a red Tootoo with a hat that said Make Technicolor Great again.
You probably guess that I am talking about Josh Pines, who gave the most fantastic class on cinematic color over on-colour.training last week. And if you have missed the live event and this is stuff you are interested in learning, I would highly recommend it.
But next, without further ado - ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Joshua Pines.

What do Kanye West, The Weekend, and Ariana Grande have in common? Apart from being world-class artists, they all grade their music videos with the same Colorist. And what happens when you take this raw grading talent out of the music video world and put him in charge of the color of Apple+'s prime TV show Grayhound. You get a powerful creative mix that has led to an HPA nomination for the best color in the feature film category. If this is not enough, this Colorist has just been named 30 under 30 by Forbes Magazine in section Art & Style, which is a historic nomination for any person working in post-production, not even to mention a nomination for a colorist. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am proud to present Hollywood's next big color hit and one person to put on your watch list - Bryan Smaller from Company 3.

Today's guest has earned himself a reputation as an innovator who knows how to make a RED camera look good. This could have been because of the fact that he was responsible for the picture post of one of the world's first movies shot on RED ONE - Che by Stephen Soderbergh. Since then he has graded many award-winning movies, amongst whom we can find the series called Russian Doll that won EMI for cinematography. Recently I noticed incredibly interesting looks of a movie called No Sudden Move by Stephen Soderbergh and then I have found out that it was shot on RED and that the same person in question graded it. I could not resist but get in touch and schedule a recording of this podcast just before Xmas to get to know Nat better and be up close and personal. Ladies and Gentlemen, today I have the great pleasure of introducing you to Nat Jenks from Post Works in New York.

Today's guest is representative of the next generation of Hollywood colorists. He started over 25 years and has had an extraordinary career path. The level of innovation that he is bringing into the business of color grading is beyond anything that we have seen so far, primarily because he is working in a unique environment, a company that many of you know for their specialty in film processing. You will be pleased to learn that he has just been nominated for the outstanding color of a theatrical release at the Hollywood PostAlliance Arts and Crafts awards for his work on Green Knight. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to welcome Alastor Arnold from Fotokem LA.
