  • CINEMISSES! Masters of the Universe (2026)
    Oct 16 2026

If you grew up on He-Man: the toys, the cartoon, or the gloriously ridiculous names that sucked from day one, this conversation between Matt and Tug is for you. That's right, in today's episode we'll take on 2026's Masters of the Universe! We'll tell you why this long-delayed adaptation mostly works, where it stumbles, and why – no matter what – it still feels like a win for fans.

From the decades-long, wildly messy journey from toy-line nostalgia to a $200 million fantasy epic, we'll pore over the endless development hell, the revolving door of writers and directors, and the surprising creative choices that finally brought Eternia to life.

Along the way, we get delightfully nerdy about the original action figures, the cartoon, the shockingly horrible 1987 film, and the toy-line mythology that shaped the whole franchise. By the power of podcasts! WE HAVE THE POWER!

  • CINEMISSES! The Mist
    Sep 30 2026

Stephen King’s The Mist is a monster movie, a morality play, and a mid-tier episode of the Twilight Zone all at once — but does Frank Darabont’s 2007 adaptation work, or does it feel like a made-for-TV movie with slightly better creatures? (Spoiler alert: It's the latter.) In this episode, Matt and Tug unpack the grocery store siege, the movie's “monsters outside versus monsters inside” idea, some clunky exposition and dialogue, as well as the movie’s divisive ending that Darabont changed from the source material.

There's a lot to get into with this, not-so-great adaptation of a Stephen King story, (There are many) so put off that trip to the grocery store and sit down to listen.

And if you think Matt and Tug are scared to go out there -- you're right! Neither one of them wants eleventy billion spider creatures taking up residence in their chest cavities. THEY'RE OUT THERE! IN THE MIST!

  • CINEMISSSES! The Quick and the Dead
    Sep 16 2026

In today's episode, Matt and Tug break down how Sam Raimi turned a silly revenge Western into a comic-book fever dream. That’s right, it’s 1995’s The Quick and the Dead! If you like stylish action, ridiculous gunfights and a stacked cast, many of whom are here WAY before they became legends, this is the one to check out. We’ll talk Sharon Stone at the peak of her powers. We’ll talk a very young Leo DiCaprio. We’ll even talk about why/how Gary Sinise was even in this picture. If you want to learn how Raimi wrangled an absurd ensemble into a film that feels like a live-action comic panel, then DRAW! (Actually you just need to hit PLAY.)

  • CINEMISSES! Night Shift
    Aug 26 2026

In today's episode, Matt and Tug dig into Ron Howard's wild 1982 directorial debut, Night Shift. They discuss the 80s New York grime that gives the movie its bite, and the sitcom-perfect (and sometimes not-so-perfect) writing that somehow makes a prostitution racket feel oddly sweet. If you love 80s movies that are packed with quotable lines, zippy energy, and a cast full of faces you'll instantly recognize, this one has plenty to chew on. You'll discover why Michael Keaton's manic debut steals every scene, how Henry Winkler uses Chuck Lumley to escape the Fonz forever, and you'll consider how Ron Howard was able to make a high-concept sex comedy feel more like a story about love, not sleaze. Hold the phone, Chuck! It's another episode of CINEMISSES!

  • CINEMISSES! Bottle Rocket
    Jul 15 2026

In this episode, Matt and Tug explore Wes Anderson's debut film "Bottle Rocket." They delve into the short film it was based on, how it moved through the film festival circuit and eventually became a feature. They pontificate on how much of what would appear in later Anderson films was there -- in some form or fashion -- from the very start. They also touch on Luke and Owen Wilson, and how their older brother Andrew kind of got thee short end of the stick when it comes to Hollywood success. All in all, a cool convo about one of the world coolest filmmakers. Grab the yellow jumpsuit and let's go!

  • CINEMISSES! The Running Man (2025)
    May 22 2026

While most dystopian remakes lean into camp or the fantastical — this one dares to be frighteningly real. In today's episode, Matt and Tug dive into Edgar Wright’s gritty reimagining of "The Running Man," a sharp, modern take on the classic sci-fi story from Stephen King. Unlike the over-the-top 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, this version taps into a near-future that feels disturbingly close to home, exploring issues of income inequality, media manipulation, and mass surveillance. We'll talk about how the film pulls from King’s original novella to create a more grounded dystopia that hits a little to close to home. We'll explore the trademark visual storytelling techniques Wright uses to build tension and deliver the narrative. Finally, we'll shudder at how modern tech like deep fakes and drones makes the movie feel unsettlingly current. We aren't as angry as Ben Richards is, but we RAN, to talk about this movie. We hope you'll RUN to listen to it. It's showtime!
