• How To Navigate Difficult Emotions Without Becoming Numb To Them

Anger, fear, anxiety, sadness, even happiness can hit hard and fast, and a lot of us were taught to either hide it or muscle through it. That works until it doesn’t, and then we end up emotionally hijacked at work, at home, or in our own heads. I walk through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a practical approach to emotional regulation for men, especially when the feelings are intense but life still requires you to lead.

We get into what acceptance really means: naming the emotion without judging it, invalidating it, or turning it into a character flaw. I break down cognitive defusion so you can step back and remember that thoughts are thoughts and emotions are emotions, not your identity. Then we move into presence and awareness, because awareness brings data and data helps you make informed decisions instead of reactive ones.

From there, we talk values-based living and committed action, the idea of “commitments over feelings” without pretending the impact isn’t real. I share the two hands on the wheel metaphor to keep emotions in the car but not in the driver’s seat, plus the RAIN tool (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) you can use the moment your body starts to heat up. If you want better communication, stronger boundaries, and healthier coping skills, press play, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review with the value you’re choosing to live by.

  • "I'm Good": The Lie That Keeps Men Unseen and Unheard
    Oct 1 2026

“I’m good” sounds harmless, but for a lot of men it’s the sentence that keeps us isolated. We’re back after a long pause, and we start with the most honest place possible: I’ve been doing the same thing I challenge other men to stop doing, taking on too much, pushing through, and calling it fine. If you’ve ever answered “I’m good” to end the conversation faster, you’ll recognize how automatic that mask can become.

We dig into why so many Black men default to that response, not because we’re trying to lie, but because we’ve been conditioned to protect an image. “Handle it.” “Be strong.” “Don’t complain.” The problem is that being needed isn’t the same as being known. You can be dependable, reliable, and constantly available, and still have almost nobody who truly knows what you’re carrying. Over time, people respond to the performance, stop checking in, and we end up feeling lonely even when we’re surrounded by friends and family.

We also talk Black men’s mental health in plain terms, including how depression and burnout can show up as anger, irritability, distance, and isolation, then get mislabeled as an attitude problem. I share practical tools to break the “I’m good” reflex: expand your emotional vocabulary, choose one trusted person, and reach out before anyone asks. I also invite you to a virtual men’s check-in built around this exact topic, plus a preview of our next conversation on faith, anxiety, and depression.

If this resonates, listen through, share it with a brother who stays silent, and then subscribe and leave a review so more men can find a healthier way to be seen. What’s your go-to line when you’re not actually okay?
