  • Gert Leeftink - " It's such a wonderful passion, not only for the results, but also in connecting with your model."
    Aug 21 2026

Welcome back to Beyond The Brush, the podcast that takes you behind the scenes of the makeup, beauty and body art industries.

Episode eight introduces you to Dutch artist, Gert Leeftink. His abstract bodyart is truly freeform encompassing shapes and colourways. Painting for more than 20 years, each one is unique, as he prefers to go where the creative muse takes him.

He’s been a part of the Worlds as an instructor for many years and we love how his freedom of expression is liberating. You don’t always have to paint to a specific design, sometimes it’s great just to play.

This episode's presenter is Emma Rutherford.

  • Michael Müller "I started working with the hair—incorporating it into a body painting piece because doing so allowed me to make my canvas larger."
    Aug 14 2026

Welcome back to Beyond The Brush, the podcast that takes you behind the scenes of the makeup, beauty and body art industries.

In this episode we chat to world-renowned multi talented artist Michael Müller, who has a whole host of creative skills, including bodypainting of course!

He’s a fascinating interviewee who’s worked with a wide range of artists and brands. With a love of the avante garde, his sculptural hair creations are the perfect complement to even the most intricate bodypaint so we were delighted when he accepted our invitation to come on the Pod and tell us, and you, more about his creative work.

This was one of the most fun interviews we’ve ever done – half in English and half in German and which also got Cat practising her speaking German again too!

  • Johannes Stötter: "I just had this idea without having ever seen a bodypainting photo before!"
    Aug 5 2026

Welcome back to Beyond The Brush, the podcast that takes you behind the scenes of the makeup, beauty and body art industries.

We honestly can’t believe how long ago it was when we recorded the very first season of Beyond the Brush, way back in 2021! We’re so sorry for such a long gap and thank you so much to all of you who have been asking when it’ll be back too!

We have some brand-new Beyond the Brush podcast episodes ready at last, and as an extra treat these episodes were recorded LIVE at the World Bodypainting Festival in Austria.

In this episode we chat to previous World Bodypainting Champion and expert in bodypaint illusion, Johannes Stotter.

With a host of awards under his belt, Johannes is well known around the world for his groundbreaking body painting.

When his 2013 bodypaint creation of a tropical frog using five models went viral, his career rocketed into the stratosphere – and brought him to media attention all over the world, so we were incredibly excited when he accepted our invitation to be on the podcast. It's an intriguing chat full of surprises! We hope you enjoy it!

  • Graham Cann "I didn't find my artistic voice until quite late on in life"
    Sep 27 2021

Welcome back to the last in this debut series of Beyond The Brush, although, as you'll hear, it was actually the first that we recorded!
Our final guest is multi-published photographer, Graham Cann, who specialises in fashion, beauty, editorial and commercial work. Working in a mixture of analogue and digital imagery, he’s as comfortable on location as he is in a studio – and in fact he’s often found shooting bodypaint at exhibitions and shows.

Jennie and Emma headed to meet Graham in his studio, The Glass Factory, the largest daylight and commercial photographic and film in Essex and find out about a boy from South London with a background in construction got into the photography game.

  • Paul Merchant "My first trial day was actually at IMATS!"
    Sep 20 2021

This week’s guest is Global Head of Makeup at professional giants, Kryolan. British artist Paul Merchant is that rare creature who is a master at everything he turns his hand to. From education to live TV, theatre to Fashion Weeks, bodypainting to cosmetic camouflage, Paul’s self-taught style breaks down barriers and his natural ease make him one of most in-demand artists working today.

Cheekily dubbed a frequent flyer, Paul’s punishing schedule is not for the faint-hearted and his work frequently sees him crossing continents. On top of this he edits Make-up International Magazine, produced by Kryolan, and during Covid he and the team have turned their hands to online workshops and Live streaming. Is there nothing he can’t do?

We find out about his start in the industry and why performance will always be close to his heart.
