  • Tuning the Soul: Creativity and Connection with Reza Jacobs
    Jan 10 2024

Have you ever been struck by the connection between a riveting musical performance and a heart-to-heart conversation? This episode isn't just about sound; it's about the profound dynamics of human expression and connection. I'm joined by the extraordinarily talented Reza Jacobs, a renowned musician, psychotherapist in training, and my musical collaborator in our Sacred Sound project Dyad.

What if we could see every dissonance in life as an opportunity for growth? A chance to find harmony and connection through the power of improvisation and the beauty of being entirely present? Reza and I share stories of how staying in the moment allows creativity to blossom, leading to exhilarating insights and the kind of trust that propels us to leap into the unknown with confidence. We celebrate those instances where life's surprises resonate with the rhythm of authenticity, and how embracing the unexpected can lead us to a richer, more purposeful existence.

And, most precious of all, is the childlike wonder that fuels the creative process, whether it's in a burst of improvisational jazz or the simple joy of play. This episode is an ode to the improvisational dance of life, where each misstep is met with instant forgiveness and the path forward is illuminated by curiosity and discovery.

  • Practical Spirituality
    Dec 29 2023

I'm talking with someone very special today - Dr Brad Melle (who also happens to be my husband). He is a religious historian with his own podcast called Freestyle Theology where he 'wonders freely out loud' about God and faith and spirituality.

He invited me to be on his podcast to talk about my work in Practical Spirituality. I loved the conversation so much, I immediately knew that I wanted to share it with you, too.

We talk about challenging the self-help industry's status quo, advocating for a compassionate and individualized approach to unlocking true productivity. We talk about the traps of mimetic desires and societal pressures that can lead us astray from our innermost yearnings, emphasizing the importance of aligning with our authentic selves to cultivate a life brimming with purpose and joy. We even delve into the complexities of our survival systems—the innate biological mechanisms that drive our motivations and responses.

Finally, we get into the transformative framework of the LITlife program, where defining a Lucid purpose shapes the creation Intentional systems so that Targeted actions make your most important work the easiest to do.

  • Toxic Gratitude
    Dec 21 2023

Gratitude gets talked about a lot in this holiday season. But, me being me, I’m always interested in the angles that are less examined. Questions like - is there a shadow side to so much gratitude? Can gratitude tip over into the world of toxic positivity? Can a focus on gratitude become an unhealthy obsession where choosing gratitude wears away at your body’s instinctual ability to tell you that something is not right? That something is just off?
These are just some of the questions I'm exploring in this episode!

  • What about grief?
    Jul 24 2023

We're halfway through the year! So, in this episode, I'm giving you an update on the year so far. It has been an unexpected season of grief for me, so I'm sharing what I have learned and continue to learn!

Here are three thoughts to take away from today's episode:
    1. Rest is important. Everything feels harder when you add grief to the mix, so prioritize sleep and restful activities. Then you'll be able to give your energy in the places and times that really matter.
    2. In the good times, intentionally craft your life so that your home and routines actively support the life you love living. When grief hits, these will support you and keep you going in ways you could never predict.
    3. When you set the right goals, you will unconsciously keep working toward them, even when you are consciously letting go of your achievement mentality.

  • AI and the Changing Landscape of Art-Making w/ Tony Vieira
    Feb 8 2023

In today’s episode I’m having a conversation with Tony Vieira. He’s a musician, educator, composer, multi-disciplinary artist whose projects always have an interesting philosophical idea behind them. After completing his undergrad in Jazz performance, he did a masters in Composition, which led him in a winding path to collaborating in Augmented Reality projects. He then completed his PhD exploring some fascinating stuff including sound mediation through technology, place making through listening, and location aware media and sound, and storytelling using space as an active character. I love this conversation for so many reasons, including the fact that he often answers questions with stories or references to works of art, but I especially love that I got to ask him about some things that have been on my mind recently regarding Artificial Intelligence and how he sees that interacting with and changing the landscape for artists in the coming decades. So here you go - a conversation with an inspiring maker of art and my good friend, Tony Vieira.
