  • Ep 348 January 2026 Roundup
    Jan 10 2026

Hapy New Year! It's the beginning of January 2026 which means I can take the opportunity to speak again with Ellen Bayens of theceliacscene.com about news and information she has brought to our attention over the past month.

Ellen speaks to us about a study done on children properly diagnosed with celiac disease who, after months on the gluten free diet and lower antibody numbers are still showing symptoms. The study may show a link between these symptoms and a condition called DGBI (Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction).

Ellen has informed us of the testing process of an app for our phones which is in development that will allow us to scan food labels and with the app using AI, it will determine if the food is gluten free or not. Both Ellen and I have praise and concerns about this one.

I explain to Ellen the continuing process of the Celiac Canada petition to government to allow for a tax "break" to compensate for our increased food costs. Ellen reminds us of the updated Gluten Free Fast Food Listings on her website for both Canada and the US. As well, Ellen fills us in on her test of a new pizza available at Costco and other cooking she did over the holidays.

If you have anything you'd like to hear Ellen and I discuss in our next conversation you can send me an email to acdnceliacpodcast@gmail.com or to Ellen at ellen@theceliacscene.com.

  • Ep 347 Petition Update with Melissa
    Dec 16 2025

On this podcast I speak with Melissa Secord, Executive Director of Celiac Canada regarding the recent petition that was up for signatures. The time to sign has now closed and I was interested in how successful the CCA was in getting signatures a second time for this petition, and what the next steps are to push for the reality to make gluten free more affordable in Canada.

  • Ep 346 December 2025 Roundup
    Dec 4 2025

It's the beginning of December 2025 which means to me that I get to catchup with Ellen Bayens of theceliacscene.com about information she has brought to our attention over the past month.

First, by December 6th, let me remind you about signing the e-Petition from Celiac Canada to request that the Federal Government consider a Gluten-Free Tax Credit. Here's a link to sign the digital e-Petition - https://www.celiac.ca/petition-high-cost-of-gluten-free-food/

Ellen and I also spoke about a Survey that is online from Conquer Studies through Dr. Diana Major and the University of Alberta regarding the cost of gluten free food for families. If you are an adult with celiac disease or the parent of a child with celiac disease, your opinion and experiences will help form a true picture of what Canadians are experiencing.

We talked about the Gluten-Free marketplace that was held recently in Charlottetown, PEI.

Ellen and I spoke about issues around AI and how that is affecting some recipe websites – the lesson here is to follow bloggers you know and trust.

Both Ellen and I have been travelling over the past couple of months, and we chat about some of the gluten-free aspects of our adventures.
