Satisfying Mystery
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If one of my friends was a fan of "cozies" and Jessica Fletcher, I'd definately recommend this audiobook.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Murder, She Wrote?
The description of the filming of a TV commercial. The narrative gave me a mental image of what the area looked like and how the filming was done.
Did Cynthia Darlow do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes. However, I do find her regional accents slightly overdone. I got used to Jessica's New England accent. I'm a midwesterner and I have no idea if the accent is accurate. However the accent she used for one character from Texas was annoying to me.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. But I smiled often and relaxed alot.
Any additional comments?
I was a fan of the "Murder She Wrote" TV series. These books are based on the TV series and therefore predictable in some ways. That's OK with me. I like Jessica's common sense and intelligence. I know there will not be descriptions of excessive violence. I know there will be an interesting puzzle to solve. Sometimes I just want to listen to a good, relaxing story. The "Murder She Wrote" series fills that need for me.

Jessica isn't stupid so don't write her stupid
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone completely unfamiliar with the character.
What character would you cut from Murder, She Wrote: Madison Avenue Shoot?
I really don't like Grady; he is the ultimate albatross.
Any additional comments?
Jessica has been around for quite a while as both a TV character and protagonist in novels; and as such, she is an intelligent woman and writer who is known to do her homework for a book. It is unacceptable she would be doing a commercial spot and not know what a gaffer is or a best boy, etc. Why portray her as sort of dotty? For example, Angela Lansbury made sure she had the final say over her character’s wardrobe because she saw no reason why her character wouldn’t be sophisticated. So why dumb down her character now? Jessica has a webpage, she understands technology. If she doesn’t tweet, it’s likely because she likes to maintain some private life. I don’t expect her to be portrayed as Emma Peel but neither do I see her as grandma in a rocking chair. Give the character some respect.

Jessica in NY is Boring
This was my first Murder, She Wrote book. And I think I really would have liked it if it had been set in Cabot Cove, and not on the set of a commercial filming in NYC.
I found it too boring and couldn't finish listening. Also, the narrator's accent was annoying.

Behind the Camera
Would you consider the audio edition of Murder, She Wrote to be better than the print version?
Haven't read any of the books but hearing it with the regional dialects makes it an experience that reading it wouldn't give. The reader is very good at what she does.
What did you like best about this story?
Positive family values, ethics in business and an indirect lession learned.
Have you listened to any of Cynthia Darlow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Cynthia's interpatitions have grown nicely. She is very consistant with each character.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Murder and the Commercial.
Any additional comments?
I am sad that this is Book 6 and 7 isn't here yet. This is the second time I have gone through this series. Most enjoyable. I do them back to back. Can't wait for Book 7. I'll go through all of the books again and do the newest one last. I hope it comes out soon. HURRY AUDIBLE.COM!!!!

Not bad, but not the best
I've read several books from the Murder, She Wrote series, and I've really enjoyed them. This was the first one I've listened to in audiobook format. I have to start by saying that Cynthia Darlow is now among my top favorite narrators. She did an outstanding job of differenting the voices of the various characters, and her voice was simultaneously melodic and energetic.
As to the story, while it was sweet in sections, it left a lot to be desired in terms of the movement of the story. I became bored several times during the book because of the slow plot development, and there just wasn't a lot of action or suspense. It actually had a good ending, for a murder mystery, but I wouldn't buy it again. There wasn't anything really awful about the story, it just wasn't that great.
I'll probably try another selection from the series because of the narrator. I'll just assume that this one wasn't one of the best examples.

Fun and believable story
Sales and marketing is equally corrupt as politics. But I guessed wrong at the end. So many had motive

The murder where no one cared
This took ages to get to the murder only to have no character including Ms . Fletcher who cared. Awful

Waffle
At least half of this book is unnecessary, long winded description. Just pure waffle. Plot itself is okay, exactly as expected for a Jessica fletcher story. Narrate does sound reasonably like Jessica

A good installment
I found this one very interesting. Compared to the TV shows and the first 2 I have listened to the main event was much further into the book. I did quite like it that way.

Who doesn’t love Jessica Fletcher?
This book is perfectly fine if you, like me, want some company while driving alone, as it doesn’t require much concentration.
I found all the “I said”… “he said”… “she said”… extremely annoying: I know that this is an audiobook and not the tv show, but it is not that difficult to understand who has just “said” something, without continually specifying.
The audiobook was included with my subscription, in my opinion if it doesn’t come to you for free it’s not worth spending one credit.

AVOID!! This is awful.
I've listened to quite a few of these Murder She Wrote stories (15?), and while I would classify few of them as "good", some are definitely better than others. This is possibly the worst I've listened to.
There are 2 problems. The writing and the narrator.
Starting with the narrator, Cynthia Darlow does a passable Jessica Fletcher, although it still sounds a lot more like an impression than someone simply acting. Her performance as Cookie is the standout. I would even say it's good and humorous. The other performances range from bad to cringeworthy. The worst is Frank, the 9-year-old nephew, but the detective whose cold comes and goes is down there with him. At one point, she mentions someone "with an English accent", and honestly, up until that moment, none of the voices I had heard struck me as English. It was only later that I detected she was trying (emphasis on trying!) to do an English accent. Other voices are indiscernible from one another. And then there's the part where she says Brady instead of Grady.
However, the biggest problem is simply the writing. Was Donald Bain paid by the word? I cannot emphasise how bad the writing is. The story could have been half the length. There is simply so much superfluous description. Characters go on and on, taking up time and not telling us anything (for example, one character describing a neighbour who explained where to find X, Y or Z in New York to the new arrivals). The initial scenes with the police were simply irritating. I was actually getting angry listening to it. It wasn't simply that Jessica was having trouble making a policeman listen to her, it went on and on and on. And then it went on some more.
Bain clearly has no idea about life in the real world. Frank and his friend Michele have walkie-talkies that have a range that must extend for miles. We're told that the car comes to pick Jessica up from her hotel to take her to the shoot and it takes about half an hour. So let's say it's 10 or 15 miles away. Completely inconceivable that children's walkie-talkies (any???) would be good for that distance, especially when you have to go to a specific room in the apartment to use them because of the reception. Another implausibility is the Italian using the word "patch" instead of the word "spot" to describe the commercial. Why would he do that? Italians also use the word "spot". Why would he forget a word used in his own language to use a somewhat obscure word in a foreign language? (I'm reminded again that Cynthia Darlow is no master when it comes to accents).
So, why did I give this 2 stars instead of one? Because the last 2 hours pick up. The middle 2 hours are REALLY tough to get through. As I said, I found it making me angry as everything was so inconceivable. Frank had got himself into a little accident, and Jessica and Grady decided to take him home to keep him out of further trouble... But it all sorts itself out, and yet somehow he manages to wander off and nobody cares?! There has been a murder and the police refuse to put out an amber alert for a child who may have witnessed the crime and who may have been kidnapped?! And as mentioned, the scenes with the police (including Jessica trying to get to see Grady at the police station) were extremely -- e.x.t.r.e.m.e.l.y. -- irritating.
I did want to finish this as I'm a completist when it comes to Murder She Wrote.
It's a shame that none of the audiobooks I've listened to have good narrators. They mostly have weak, flimsy plots, but a good narrator (or cast!) would make them so much better.
Thankfully, this was a freebie with Audible, otherwise I would be REALLY annoyed.

Quite Pedestrian
I must be the only Baby Boomer on the planet who hasn’t watched this show. It’s the 21st century, so I’m waay out of date for this and therefore don’t feel qualified to review this equitably.
It’s an easy read/listen and I think that it was good that I didn’t see the TV Series because the narrator wasn’t necessarily endearing, so probably didn’t sound right.
The story wasn’t engrossing, and the solution was a bit bland (and unlikely) and all of the characters were one dimensional at most…
