Cynthia Darlow surpasses her normal perfection.

Really great story and even better performance. It was enjoyable to learn about Mexican culture.

Pretty good but…..

The story lines are light and fluffy and easy to follow but I get so tired of hearing, he said, she said, i said, they said. Completely unnecessary.

Once again, very interesting story, poor narration

Struggled to finish this very nice JBF story because of terrible narration. Read it instead.

Grating accent spoils it.

This was a very slow book to get into especially with the "Angela Lansbury" accent the narrator attempts. Its awful. The plot was not hard to figure, a disappointment all round.

No Cabot Cove

I grow up watching Angela Lansbury playing Jessica Fletcher, so when I saw there was an audio book of one of her stories I jumped at the chance to relive my childhood. Although the narrator didn't sound like Jessica and the other Cabot Cove residents that I know so well were not present I did enjoy it. Mainly I think because it was an interesting mystery and I don't think you need to have watched the tv show to enjoy. The story is fairly slow to start but I think that works well because it is setting up the scene and setting for the mystery. There is a number of suspects to keep you guessing and like a Jessica show other than the murder there is no violence. I think I would join Jessica on another audio book adventure.
After a busy schedule Jessica Fletcher accepts an invitation to join her publisher and his wife at there holiday home in Mexico for rest and relaxation. The journey there is eventful with delays, missing drivers and even a hold up at gun point. When she finally arrived Jessica hopes the fun and games have finished and she can sit back with some Margaritas. Unfortunately things don't go to plan and when her host goes on a trip to collect the expats mail he and his friend gets kidnapped. They receive a ransom note by the local newspaper and then a body is discover. Can Jessica find the kidnappers before another body is dropped?
I think I was expecting to hear Jessica speaking, so was slight disappointed that the narrator gave her more of an accent than I was expecting but I did get use to her voice and enjoyed her interpretation.

Ignore It Is Supposed to be a Jessica Fletcher Sto

The story is nothing like the television series if that is what you are after. It is dull, and frustrating, and rather drawn out, but I listened to it on a long journey so it was passable. Wouldn't listen again, so good that it was included in my membership.
Will try another one on a long journey as very little concentration needed.
(Oh, and they got it right that she doesn't drive!)

Well paced and in line with the TV series

I didn't realise they did book versions. As someone who grew up watching and still do. I really enjoyed this.

the narrator got the voice right too.

nostalgia and intrigue

I'm a big murder she wrote fan, and Jessica is like a beloved aunt at this point. This was an enjoyable adventure with her, and it had me guessing till the end. the actress sounded just like Jessica Fletcher as portrayed by Angela Lansbury.

UTTERLY implausible and so, so slow.

Four things stuck out for me in this book. None of them positive.

The first -- total implausibility #1. Two people invite Jessica to stay with them in Mexico. On the day she arrives, they go off to a party and don't get home until late. Mobile phones existed when this was set, but they didn't think to give Jessica their mobile number in case anything happened. It's Jessica, of course something was going to happen. Why didn't one of them wait at home like a good friend would?

The second -- total implausibility #2. Having invited your good friend to stay with you in Mexico for 2 weeks, why would you go on a (minimum) three-day trip the day after she arrives?!

The third -- apparently email isn't international and you need a separate account for Mexico.

The fourth -- some unidentified messenger service can just fling messages on your screen without you having to log on and without you having to accept a friend request.

The narrator's Maine accent slips and slides all over the place. At times I felt I was in South Carolina. And her Mexican accents verge on racism.

The book is NOT well written. Why say something in 10 words when you can say it in 3 pages? There is SO MUCH superfluous detail. It adds nothing to the plot but minutes to each chapter.

I did make it to the end, and I didn't DISLIKE the book... but I can't say I altogether liked it either.

Not my usual experience!

I thought it a good book. Comments on the accents were unfair! Miss Darlow narrated the entire cast and with good execution. I saw JBF aim my mind enjoying the music at the bar and enjoyed her remarkable nosiness to get to the facts and solve the crime. “Just downloaded another” in my head I did that in a true Maine accent 😜
