Sintesi dell'editore

Are transgender people discovering their authentic self? Is the hookup culture really liberating? Does abortion lead to equality for women? Does homosexuality contradict our biological sex?

In Love Thy Body, best-selling and award-winning author Nancy Pearcey takes on the hard questions about life and sexuality. She offers a respectful but riveting exposé of the secular worldview that lies behind trendy slogans and political talking points. A former agnostic, Pearcey is a sensitive guide to the secular ideas that shape current debates. She empowers listeners to intelligently and compassionately engage today's most controversial moral and social challenges.

In a surprise shattering of stereotypes, Pearcey demonstrates that while secularism promises much, in reality it delivers little. She turns the tables on stereotypes that portray Christianity as harsh and bigoted, and invites a fresh look at its holistic, life-affirming principles: It is a worldview that matches the real world and fits with human experience.

All along, Pearcey keeps listeners entranced with gripping stories of real people wrestling with hard questions in their own lives - sharing their pain, their struggles, and their triumphs.

A traumatic leap backwards

Things you should know this author believes:

Psychoanalysis developments on sex should be discarded.

Feelings of homosexuality can be suppressed if you focus on being a tool to reproduce.

Abstinence is the only option outside of traditional marriage.

Middle aged conservative Christians easily have the most exciting and fulfilling sex lives.

Sex and porn addiction is as real as any substance addiction and is not a symptom of other psychological needs.

College is trying to push beastiality on your kids and encourage future sexual assaults through promotion of hardcore porn and objectification.

Doctors are anxiously waiting in the wings to harvest organs of the fetus and will push abortions to satisfy this need.

If you agree with all these things, you’ll probably be one of the many people who have awarded this book 5 stars.

If you’re not longing for the days of the Victorian era of sexual shame, you’ll think this book is a tremendous leap backwards in having a healthy conversation about our relationship to our bodies.

It’s the book equivalent of the shameful glare from an angry puritan woman who is exceptionally well read and bites at you under the guise of some biblically clinical truth.

Audio was choppy

The content of this book was great. my complaint is how the audio was setup. Each paragraph or point was a chapter so the book had 180 chapters. It made it difficult to navigate or know how much longer the real chapters had left.

A fresh look at the topics prevalent in the church

This book, at minimum, should be mandatory reading for every pastor. This books reviews difficult issues such as abortion, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. and instead of solely looking at the formulation of the Christian stance on these issues, seeks to explain why a Christian stance is important to all persons.

This is the most informative book on this topic that I have received to date, specifically as it provides a clear framework to understanding dualism (body/self) from a Christian philosophical perspective. It has undoubtedly brought focus to the importance of the body when considering our triune nature (spirit, soul and body).

Clarifying Cultural Views on Sexuality

What made the experience of listening to Love Thy Body the most enjoyable?

The author lays a clear foundation that explains how our Western culture has gotten into the mess we are in. Explaining the split of truth into two separate domains - the fact/value split - is extremely helpful in understanding how our culture has arrived at where it is at today.

What did you like best about this story?

What I liked best was the author's way of opening my eyes to the reality of our cultural views (especially held by young people) and how in spite of extensive science refuting cultural choices and numerous studies pointing out the harm of these choices, choices are made according to worldviews - not scientific facts.

Have you listened to any of Ann Richardson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not that I am aware of.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Many - as I was very surprised at the statistics of what is happening in the younger hook-up generation and their lack of awareness at long term consequences.

Any additional comments?

This, to me, is one of the type books that I think is best "read" first in audible format. Then, a reread in both audible and visual format is helpful as it is so rich in information.

¡Amazing Facts!

I have greatly appreciated this book gives amazing facts to show our positions are not just biblical it is important for people to understand that loving the body is not just a catchy phrase.

These are complex topics, but Scripture is clear on each one. And when we refuse to offer the world that clarity, they continue to wage chaos at the expense of the most vulnerable. We're supposed to use clarity to fight against chaos!

The world should not be more passionate about their views than Christians are. We've got Christ on our side! "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Rom 8:31)

Sanity amidst the chaos

Excellent book. Provide much needed guidance to believers & non-believers alike on the design of gender & sexuality within a Christian worldview. I challenge everyone out there to read this book.

Superb and essential

Absolutely necessary in this climate and generation. Every Christian needs this truth. Instead of feeling stuck in a culture war, view this as a rescue mission.

Timely, excellent work

Nancy Pearcey’s work is so needed in our world today. The post-modern ethic is wreaking havoc on individuals, families and communities. Nancy communicates her research on this topic with unflinching truth, yet understanding grace. Her work has challenged some of my beliefs and solidified others. One of the top two books I’ve read this year.

Splendidly enlightening and encouraging

The author delves into the major issues plaguing our society and with compassionately and graciously exposes the fallacies. Highly recommended to any Christian and otherwise to understand the times we are living in and how to stay true to our natural designed selves while also assisting others who are struggling with deep-seated questions.
