Sintesi dell'editore
Her name is Renee Blackbear, but what most people call the 19-year-old Ojibwe woman is Cash.
She lived all her life in Fargo, sister city to Minnesota’s Moorhead, just downriver from the Cities. She has one friend, the Sheriff Wheaton. He pulled her from her mother’s wrecked car when she was three. Since then, Cash navigated through foster homes and at 13 was working farms, driving trucks. Wheaton wants her to take hold of her life and signs her up for college. She gets an education there at Moorhead State all right: sees that people talk a lot but mostly about nothing, not like the men in the fields she’s known all her life who hold the rich topsoil in their hands, talk fertilizer and weather and prices on the Grain Exchange. In between classes and hauling beets, drinking beer, and shooting pool, a man who claims he’s her brother shows up, and she begins to dream of the Cities and blonde Scandinavian girls calling for help.

Good mystery
Cash Blackbear is stepping out of her comfort zone and attending college. While she is working, going to school and shooting pool, she keeps having these reoccurring dreams. When the dreams turn in to reality and young girls start disappearing, Cash is plunged in the middle of a white sex slave ring.
Trigger warning: human trafficking, strong language, violence, attempted rape, and a weird obsession with cigarettes and beer.

Surprisingly Good
The author Marcie Rendon is an acknowledged playwright, but this is her first novel and it's really good. Can hardly wait to read the next two books in the series.
This book is for you if you appreciate good writing and character development. If you just prefer a fast-moving murder mystery, it's not.

Great story. Native Americans have been minimize
To take children from mothers and family is an abomination. same as the amoral leaders of our country who think they know better because they are our government. I am ashamed of what was done to the native Americans. Book was eye opening

Very good!
I was fully sucked into this series. While they were free as a membership perk I would pay for these books for sure. Some people complain about the narrator but for me her voice matches the main character Cash.

A lead character just like you or me …
The story is a follow-up to Murder on the Red River. Two things I love about this crime-suspense story is lead character be Native and she has a “semi-supernatural gift” to see messages through her dreams. One thing I wish was different was the length of the book. I really hope the series continues. The narrator also has a great voice and captures or illuminates a promising image of Ca$h through her rendition of the story.

Hooked
I'm hooked. I love that this has so many levels to it. Cash is both hard and soft although she'd never admit it.
I flew thru the first 2, ready for the third.

Historical fiction done well
The soft voice of the narrator works well as Cash, the main female character of Indian origin, shares her inner world of separation, loneliness, and longing. Will probably skip book 3 due to the harshness of the narrator. Won't use a credit on it. It's a real shame since I want to learn more about how native american Indians have endured so much injustice. Will wait until book 3 is free with the subscription.

A peak into the real world
These stories open the door to life of the Native American community which has really been airbrushed whilst everyone focuses on slavery as an example of how bad the ‘white man was, and still is.

really enjoyed this book
I loved learning more about Cash and the other characters we were introduced to in the first book of this series's. I admire Marcie for using her talent as an author to highlight the disgraceful past and present treatment of Native American Indians in Canada and elsewhere!

What a book
What makes "western civilisation" so arrogant. Is it any surprise that a lot of indigenous people around the world despise the entitled and self indulgent crap we in the West spout.
As I get older I become more and more ashamed of this "heritage".
This is a great series of books and sadly based on truth.
Thank you very much for opening my eyes.

Can't get enough of this series
one of those stories that lulls, draws you in and keeps your attention. Evocative storytelling in a distinct style.
I learned a lot about how the native minority population were treated in my lifetime. The late 60's and early 70s is a period I can relate to. I had no idea about the forced removal of Indian children. Being from the UK, perhaps I have an excuse in an era without social media, wet battery radios, no phone and no TV. Still, it's a haunting story that will be with me always. I'm going to buy the series in book format and reread these gems.
