Sintesi dell'editore
A milestone in the history of the novel, Samuel Richardson’s epistolary and elaborate Clarissa follows the life of a chaste young woman desperate to protect her virtue. When beautiful Clarissa Harlowe is forced to marry the rich but repulsive Mr. Solmes, she refuses, much to her family’s chagrin. She escapes their persecution with the help of Mr. Lovelace, a dashing and seductive rake, but soon finds herself in a far worse dilemma. Terrifying and enlightening, Clarissa weaves a tapestry of narrative experimentation into a gripping morality tale of good versus evil. The recording is divided into three volumes.

Gripping Novel & Performance
Naxos AudioBooks, which gave us the first English performance of Remembrance of Things Past now takes on the longest novel in the English canon. Richardson’s masterpiece is a work of profound psychological penetration, and the Naxos performance is completely convincing and keeps one wanting to listen to just one more letter before pausing the recording. Highly recommended.

What a Surprise!
Who knew that a 2,000 page long novel written 300 years ago could be so engrossing. Elegant prose, well-realized characters, and a riveting plot have made this book one of my most surprising literary discoveries of recent years. The audiobook is also one of the best that I have heard - the cast and performance are top-notch.

longer than necessary
my daughter bought the first book and I needed something to listen to. I bought the second and third books. I will say that I liked the first book. I am a fan of Dickens, Austen and other writers of the period. I read Pamela, another Richardson novel. on my Kindle and found it rather ridiculous. I dislike the fact that many male authors of this period create female characters that are not real human beings. Flawless character s are dull . What makes this book better than Pamela is the wonderful Miss Howe. She is real, fun and may be my favorite woman in all literature of this period. the first book deals primarily with the letters between Clarissa and Miss Howe and I enjoyed it.

Demanding, but a classic
Yes, I knew it was the longest novel in the English canon: even so, I never realized it could be this long! Even this installment needs to be taken in installments. Wonderful writing, and a real joy to have it so well read in so many different voices. Listening to the performance is not only entertaining, it is also a gentle way of sharing in one of the key moments in English literature.

Clarissa Volume 1
Not an easy listen, requires a lot of concentration, but well worth persevering with. A very high-quality, well- acted production.

Brilliant
It's odd really as the first few chapters are quite repetitive, how gripping this is....very clever. Beautifully read. I'm looking forward to next credit day to download bk 2.
