As the train moves through the night you pass a farmhouse light, cross an iron bridge over a black river, watch a signalman swing a green lantern, and stand for a moment on the open rear platform under the stars. At last the train arrives at Marrow Halt, where Odile the lamplighter is waiting.
This is a story about being carried. About the quiet relief of having nothing left to do. About arriving at the word “Here.”
