The Iliad is a timeless epic poem, crafted in dactylic hexameters and traditionally attributed to Homer. Set against the backdrop of the legendary Trojan War, it chronicles the dramatic events of a ten-year siege of Ilium by a coalition of Greek states. The narrative focuses on the intense conflict between King Agamemnon and the mighty warrior Achilles, unfolding over just a few weeks in the final year of the war. Yet, within this brief timeframe, the Iliad weaves in countless Greek legends and tales about the siege, offering a rich tapestry of heroism, honor, and tragedy.

Praised as a remarkable achievement, this rendition of Homers Iliad stands out as the finest English translation to date. The London Times noted in 1865 that it is a splendid performance, while the Edinburgh Review highlighted its captivating nature, teeming with life and fervent interest. Lord Derbys version brings us closer to the original text than any previous attempt, making it a compelling read for anyone seeking to experience the essence of this epic tale.

The Odyssey is one of the two principal epic poems of ancient Greece, traditionally attributed to Homer. Often viewed as a continuation of the narrative set forth in the Iliad—the other Homeric epic—it holds a vital place in the Western literary canon. While the Iliad is considered the oldest extant work of Western literature, The Odyssey ranks as the second oldest. Scholars generally date its composition to the late 8th century BC, likely in Ionia, the coastal region of Anatolia. The poem centers on the adventures of Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Roman mythology), the king of Ithaca, ...

The Iliad by Homer is a legendary sonnet set during the Trojan Conflict, zeroing in on the contention between the Greek legend Achilles and the Trojan sovereign Hector. As the Trojans, drove by Hector, make strides, Achilles' companion Patroclus wears Achilles' protection and is killed by Hector. Irritated, Achilles gets back to fight, kills Hector, and disrespects his body. At last, Lord Priam of Troy asks ...
