Voltaire war kein Philosoph mit einem System. Er war DER Intellektuelle seiner Zeit und verteilte in Aufsätzen, Briefen und Pamphleten als Kritiker seiner Zeit und dessen Geistes seine Schläge rundum. Zum Beispiel werden Descartes, Pascal oder Rousseau mit entschiedenen Gesten des Platzes verwiesen. Er macht sich Gedanken zur Freiheit, zum Materialismus, zur Seele, den Sternen (Gott nicht zu vergessen) vom Wert des Lebens und vom Tod und verfasst einen noch heute gültigen Aufsatz wider den Krieg. Er ist jemand, der noch heute aufklärt.

Cándido figura a la cabeza de todas las novelas y cuentos de Voltaire como la pieza indiscutible del arte narrativo del Siglo de las Luces. Es una novela de aprendizaje, y su héroe un optimista que ha asimilado las teorías del providencialismo leibniziano: cree a pies juntillas que el mundo es un paraíso, a pesar de que, desde la primera línea, la realidad se encarga de negarlo.

Candide, der Neffe eines Barons, muss fliehen, nachdem er bei einer Liebelei mit einer schönen Prinzessin ertappt wurde. Er erlebt auf seiner Flucht durch die Welt allerlei Abenteuer... Am Ende kommt er zu der Erkenntnis, dass dem Menschen letztlich nichts bleibt, als "seinen Garten zu bestellen".

Ist Optimismus gerechtfertigt? Nicht, wenn man Voltaire glauben darf. In seiner satirischen Novelle "Candide" malt der Autor ein pessimistisches Weltbild. Und was packt der Autor nicht alles in diese Geschichte! Ein unübertreffliches Beispiel reiner Erzählfreude!!!
