Im Allgäu hat es jemand auf Hunde abgesehen! Wegen eines perfiden Anschlags auf die Vierbeiner des Tierschutzhofes wird Kommissar Weinzirl zum Gut Sternthaler im Pfaffenwinkel beordert. Handelt es sich um die Tat hundehassender Nachbarn? Wenig später wird auf einer Vernissage in Berlin die Inhaberin des Hofes, eine bekannte Künstlerin, erschlagen aufgefunden. Gemeinsam mit seinem Berliner Kollegen Reber ermittelt Weinzirl in alle Richtungen.

Verschwörung im Allgäu: Eine Wasserleiche aus dem Lechsee führt Gerhard Weinzirl und Evi Straßgütl auf den Auerberg und mitten hinein in eine Welt von seriösen Archäologen und versponnenen Sonderlingen. Was geschah am Fuße jenes mystischen Berges, den Esoteriker und einige wirre Keltenfanatiker als Heiligtum sehen? Wurde hier jemand ermordet, weil er eine wissenschaftliche Sensation entdeckt hat?

Dass die lebenslustige Tierärztin Svenja Selbstmord begangen haben soll, kann Kommissar Weinzirl kaum glauben - daran ändert selbst ihr Abschiedsbrief nichts. Auch Jo, Allgäuer Tourismusdirektorin und beste Freundin der Toten, hat ihre Zweifel. Im Alleingang und jenseits der Legalität spioniert sie Svenjas Chef, dem dubiosen Dr. Ostheimer nach. Schnell stößt sie auf Ungereimtheiten - und auf mysteriöse Todesfälle im Stall eines Bauern.
