A Duchess, two Countesses, and their families are forced to stop at the Red Lion Inn in Meryton on their way home to one of their estates due to two of the ladies beginning active labor. The same day, Fanny Bennet, with Thomas Bennet away in London, also goes into labor with her second child. When she calls for the midwife and Mr. Jones, she is informed they are both at the inn attending two ladies.

Rather than protect their daughter like any good parent should, first Fanny and then Thomas Bennet push their sixteen-year-old daughter Elizabeth into a marriage with a much older man who happens to be a duke. Fanny is seduced by the fact he is a duke, even if he is not interested in Jane, something she cannot believe at first, and his willingness to dower her remaining four daughters. For Bennet, when the Duke offers to break the entail on Longbourn after a certain condition is met, his half-hearted opposition to the match dissipates.

After the untimely death of her husband Toby, Lady Victoria Howard discovers that she possesses the magical gift of time travelling, using an enchanted mirror in her grandmother's attic. During her foray through the mirror, she travels back in time, meeting people linked to her own aristocratic family, several generations earlier, which opens up some interesting questions for Victoria. In steamy, time-travelling adventures that would rival "Outlander", Lady Victoria Howard travels to a variety of different time periods and countries, enjoying exciting new experiences and pleasures.

Victoria experiences a time slip that conjures William into her dreams. Fellow time traveller, Ruth, advises her to return the marble to Jude’s home, which she does, but the pair fall out over the ongoing land dispute. What Victoria knows for sure is that she needs to learn more about William and Molly and she wastes no time in travelling through the mirror to the Victorian era, to discover more truths.

Victoria's adventures continue through the mirror and she embarks on a Viking adventure where she is worshipped in a sexual ritual as a goddess. In the late 1930s, she arrives on the "Gone with the Wind" film set where she has a sexual encounter with Clark Gable dressed as Rhett Butler. In the present-day, she meets the wealthy art collector, George Shervashidze. Then, in Bibury, she meets George’s almost complete opposite, Jude. Victoria finds her mind flitting from various men; Ragnar, George, William, Jude, and Jonathan.

After losing her husband Toby, 34-year-old Lady Victoria Howard learns from her grandmother that she possesses the ability to travel through time using a magical mirror passed down through her family. Victoria is coming to terms with her life without Toby and finds herself beginning something new with her accountant, and Toby’s friend, Jonathan. Victoria’s time-travelling adventures take her to Paris during the World War Two resistance, where she is rescued by a mysterious man from a predatory encounter. Her hero, despite the feelings he stirs in her, may not be the person he first seemed.
