"Le 1er livre des Chroniques" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Dans le canon hébreu originel, le 1er et le 2e livres des Chroniques étaient assemblés dans un ouvrage, "Les livres des Chroniques". Une chronique (du mot grec chronicon) signifie un recueil de faits rapportés dans l'ordre de leur succession dans le temps. "Chroniques 1" retrace les événements de la Création du monde à la royauté de David.

"Le Livre des Juges" est l'un des livres de l'Ancien Testament pour les chrétiens. Il raconte la période de l'histoire des Hébreux entre la conquête du Pays de Canaan (rapportée dans "Le livre de Josué") et l'apparition de la royauté. À cette époque (vers -1150-1130), c'est sous la pression d'un danger et sur un mode défensif que les tribus d'Israël mettent à leur tête un chef : c'est l'époque des Juges.

"Le 2e livre des Chroniques" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Il suit "Le 1er livre des Chroniques", qui retrace l'histoire du monde de la Création à la royauté de David. À l'origine ces deux livres n'en formaient qu'un, appelé "Livres des Chroniques", mais ils ont été divisés probablement pour des raisons d'encombrement.

"La prophétie d'Amos" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Le prophète Amos, dont le nom signifie "porteur", était originaire de Thekoa, une ville du royaume de Juda, au sud de Jérusalem. Amos était berger et homme de la terre. Sa connaissance de la vie agricole transparaît à plusieurs reprises dans sa manière de s'exprimer. Selon ses propres indications, Amos prophétisa aux jours des rois Ozias de Juda (791-740 av. J.-C.) et Jéroboam II d'Israël (793-753 av. J.-C.).

"Le livre des Proverbes" (paraboles) fait partie des Livres poétiques de l'Ancien Testament. La tradition l'attribue entre autres au roi d'Israël Salomon. Les chapitres 1 à 9 expliquent ce qu'est la vraie sagesse. Les chapitres 10 à 24 contiennent un recueil de dictons sur la bonne et la mauvaise manière de vivre. Les chapitres 25 à 29 contiennent des proverbes de Salomon transcrits par les gens d'Ézéchias, roi de Juda. Le chapitre 30 résume des pensées d'un certain Agur. Le chapitre 31 décrit les qualités d'une femme valeureuse.

"Le 2e livre des Maccabées" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament relatant la révolte des Maccabées sous un angle plus théologique et apologétique qu'historique. La période qu'il couvre est plus restreinte que celle du "1er livre des Maccabées" : il s'ouvre sur les derniers jours de Séleucos IV et se conclut sur la défaite quinze ans plus tard du général Nicanor par Judas Maccabée, héros de l'ouvrage.

"Le livre de Josué" est le premier livre historique de l'Ancien Testament chrétien et le premier livre des Prophètes dans la Bible hébraïque. Il fait suite au Pentateuque, qui se termine par la mort de Moïse aux portes du pays de Canaan. Le livre relate la conquête du pays promis sous la direction de Josué, et il porte son nom parce qu'il en est le personnage principal, et non l'auteur. Selon la tradition juive, il fut écrit par Jérémie, lequel puisa dans des documents anciens qui dateraient du Xe siècle av. J.-C.

"Le livre des Nombres" est le quatrième livre de la Bible. Ce livre regroupe tous les éléments qui ont pris place entre la sortie d'Égypte et l'arrivée en terre promise. Il doit son titre aux nombreux dénombrements ou recensements des Israélites qu'il comporte, mais cela ne représente pas l'essentiel de l'ouvrage. Ce texte aborde des thèmes variés et on y trouve des récits, des textes de lois, des prophéties et des listes généalogiques. Il relate l'histoire du voyage d'Israël depuis le mont Sinaï jusqu'aux plaines de Moab à la frontière de Canaan.
