Storia0
The Rebel Yell was a battle cry used by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War as a way to intimidate the enemy and to boost their own morale. The Rebel Yell stood in for the flag as a symbol of Confederate heritage and Southern defiance. At veteran’s reunions, the Rebel Yell represented Confederate heroism. In the first thirty or forty years of the twentieth century, a number of aging Confederate veterans got together for reunions and recorded their versions of the Rebel Yell. The following recording includes Rebel Yells from one of these reunions from the 1920s.

Albert enlisted as a drummer boy in Company C, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery Regiment on October 10, 1864. Woolson returned to Minnesota, where he lived the rest of his life as a carpenter and, later, as a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, a powerful political organization made up of Civil War veterans. The following interview was recorded in 1954.

Ty Seidule grew up revering Robert E. Lee. From his southern childhood to his service in the US Army, every part of his life reinforced the Lost Cause myth: that Lee was the greatest man who ever lived, and that the Confederates were underdogs who lost the Civil War with honor. Now, as a retired brigadier general and Professor Emeritus of History at West Point, his view has radically changed. From a soldier, a scholar, and a southerner, Ty Seidule believes that American history demands a reckoning.
