Er valt veel te vertellen over het vrouwenleven in 1000 jaar Griekse oudheid, van Homerus tot en met Plutarchus, ondanks dat de geschriften van mannelijke auteurs onze belangrijkste bron van informatie vormen. Classicus Hein van Dolen begint zijn hoorcollege met de verhalen over de schepping van de vrouw en de redenen van de opkomende vrouwenhaat bij de antieke Griekse mannen. De positie van de vrouw zoals Homerus die heeft beschreven komt aan bod, evenals de huwelijkssluiting in de epische tijd. Wat waren hun plichten en (weinige) rechten voor en na het huwelijk?

Filosoof Johan Braeckman gaat in dit deel uitgebreid in op de levens, werken en filosofie van Plato en Aristoteles.
