Die Piloten der BattleMechs sind tollkühne Männer und Frauen, die für Geld ihre Haut zu Markte tragen, und viele von ihnen finden den Tod, weil ihre Kampfmaschinen veraltet und dem konzentrierten Feuer aus Laserwaffen und Raketen nicht immer gewachsen sind.

Ein Sturm tost... Und Durant Carlyle steckt mittendrin fest. Seine Söldnertruppe, Colbys Commandos, hat bei dem Versuch, einen brutalen Kriegsherrn auf dem eisigen Planeten Golandrinas auszuschalten, mehr gefunden als erwartet. Die Freude über das Vermögen in Gold währt jedoch nicht lange, denn der Feind wird alles tun, um es sich zurückzuholen. Genau darauf setzen Durant und die Commandos. Mit dem erbeuteten Gold als Köder wollen sie die gegnerischen Söldner in eine Falle locken und ein für alle Mal erledigen.

Es hätte ein einfacher Job sein sollen. Durant Carlyle und seine Commandos wurden angeheuert, um den abgelegenen Bergbauplaneten Golandrinas vor einem lokalen Kriegsherrn und dessen Söldnern zu beschützen. Aber nahe der Peripherie sind die Dinge nur selten wie sie scheinen, und was ein simpler "Suchen und Zerstören"- Auftrag sein sollte, wird für Durant und seine Leute um einiges gefährlicher. Als sie die wahre Natur der Feindmission aufdecken, müssen Colbys Commandos neue Regeln lernen, um zu überleben.
