Sixty-seven years ago the Qash'vo'tar conquered Earth. Ever since then, the aliens had ruled from above. The Qash'vo'tar did not care what humanity did on the ground, as long as they didn't attempt to build anything that could get them to the stars. And now, sixty-seven years after they had been conquered, it was time for humanity to show the Qash'vo'tar that they had been right to fear humanity.

In the title story, a man's newfound ability to walk in the past allows him to dwell among dinosaurs, saber-toothed tigers . . . and something even more timeless. In "Construction Shack," the first manned expedition to Pluto reveals that no matter how advanced aliens may be, even they don't always get everything right. And in "Univac 2200," the thin line between humans creating technology and humans becoming technology is about to be crossed-and there may be no going back.

I'm not a stranger to being behind bars, but this prison leaves a lot to be desired. There are zero communal showers, minimal locking cells, and the other prisoners are extremely hostile. That could be because they are aliens, and this is a prison in another galaxy. Add in the fact that I'm a human female, and my life span has just dropped some serious time. I'm about to go down fighting when a scary blue alien with spikes decides he's my rescuer. Except he doesn't seem happy about my presence and, well, join the club, buddy.

Named a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, Clifford D. Simak was a preeminent voice during the decades that established science fiction as a genre to be reckoned with. Held in the same esteem as fellow luminaries Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, and Ray Bradbury, his novels continue to enthrall today's audiences. And his short fiction is still as gripping and surprising now as when it first entertained an entire generation of fans.

The twentieth century's so-called golden age of science fiction produced many great writers, yet none is greater than Clifford D. Simak, named Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America. His bold visions of and ingenious speculations about humankind's future, always enriched with empathy and a deep understanding of human strengths, foibles, and failings, have stood the test of time, remaining powerful, affecting, and relevant.

Beginning with the unforgettable title story—a wry and chilling horror tale about cloning and alien invasion that inspired the classic teleplay "The Duplicate Man" from the television series The Outer Limits—Simak propels the listener on a breathtaking journey across the galaxies and into the future. He then enthralls us with the strange chronicle of twin siblings, one tied to the Earth, the other drawn to the stars; imaginings of a volatile reunion of two former enemies who must join forces on Jupiter's moon or face extinction; and the story of a house in the middle of nowhere.

I'm a glass half-full girl, but this last week has really tested my outlook on life. First of all, aliens exist. Yeah, there's a doozy. Second of all, they steal humans from Earth, and they're not nice about it. Like at all. Anger issues abound in other galaxies apparently. My situation worsens when I learn I'm the prize in some really effed-up alien gladiator games. I'm just going to admit it now—my glass is empty, and this doesn't look good for me.

Agetha has survived many more battles than she anticipated when she first landed on her new home planet. She's older and wiser, has gained family and lost loved ones. And yet her reward for four decades of service is to be pushed to the colony's outer edges with the other aging Generationals. But that was only the beginning of her adventure.

No science fiction author was more highly regarded than Grand Master Clifford D. Simak, winner of numerous honors. One of the genre's premier literary artists, Simak explores time travel and time engines; examines the rituals and superstitions of galactic travelers who have long forgotten their ultimate purpose; and even takes fascinating detours through World War II and the wild American West in a wondrous anthology that no science fiction fan should be without.

Elasa contacts the very special Awares, folk who attune so perfectly to their environment that they can disappear, literally and figuratively. She needs to work with them to try to save Earth from being eaten by huge telepathic galactic maggots.

I'm the captain of Earth's moon base. I can handle any mission. I do not need a partner, even if he is a sexy-as-sin alien commander, who looks at me like he's trying to decide between throttling me or . . . something else. His grumpy demeanor and dominant streak make me want to shake him, but I can't deny the heat between us. Do I dare put my hand to the flame? I've been burned before. And I've guarded my heart ever since. As we travel to a distant planet to find the rare substance that will save both our kinds, we soon discover the inhabitants have some odd customs.

But how long can he keep going on the road where there is no relief for light years?

I know how to fix broken things. I'm one of Earth's top engineers. But a sexy Rhonar warrior with a scarred past? That may be a challenge even for me. An explosion on the moon base has me careening into space. If it weren't for the hot alien pilot Brokdar, I'd still be floating amongst the...
