Prospero, eigentlich Herzog von Mailand, hat durch eine Intrige seine Macht verloren und fristet mit seiner Tochter Miranda auf einer unwirtlichen Insel sein Leben, das er der Magie gewidmet hat. Als ein Schiff mit den Übeltätern Alonso, Antonio und Sebastian des Weges kommt, sieht Prospero die Stunde der Rache gekommen. Er befiehlt Ariel, seinem dienstbaren Geist, einen Sturm heraufzubeschwören, um das Schiff und seine Passagiere tüchtig durchzuschütteln. Die vermeintlich Schiffbrüchigen retten sich auf Prosperos Insel - und das Spiel seiner Vergeltung beginnt.

Bassanio braucht Geld, denn er will Portia, die schönste aller Frauen, für sich gewinnen. Antonio will ihm helfen, doch ist er gerade nicht flüssig - sein Geld steckt in Handelsschiffen, die auf dem Meer kreuzen. Also gehen sie zu Shylock. Dieser will ihnen das Geld geben, doch als Sicherheit will er nicht etwa Zinsen, sondern ein Pfund Fleisch - und zwar von Antonio! Dessen Schiffe werden plötzlich vermisst, und nun steht es schlecht für Antonio... Shakespeares Klassiker ist noch immer ein beliebter Dauerbrenner auf den Bühnen.

She is in love with him, but neither knows of the other's love until Lucetta shows Julia a love letter from Proteus. He is reading her reply when his father, Antonio, sends him to the Duke's court to join Valentine. The lovers take their leave and swear eternal constancy.

After York's claims to the throne, Henry changes the succession and makes York his heir, disinheriting his own son. Henry's queen kills York, and York's son Edward seizes the throne. Henry is imprisoned several times and eventually killed by King Edward's brother, Richard. 

King Henry VIII listens to Cardinal Wolsey too much and gives him power, which the cardinal uses to convict a duke of treason. Henry meets Anne Boleyn, divorces his wife, Katharine, and marries Anne. Anne gives birth to Princess Elizabeth, who the archbishop prophesies will become great. 

King Henry IV suffers from illness, so his youngest son, Prince John, fights the rebels, while Prince Hal prepares to be king. Meanwhile, Hal's friend Falstaff causes trouble, recruits and speaks ill of Hal. Henry dies and Hal becomes King Henry V. He banishes Falstaff from court, ready to wage war on France. 

The Roman General Titus Andronicus returns from war with four prisoners who vow to take revenge against him. They rape and mutilate Titus' daughter and have his sons killed and banished. Titus kills two of them and cooks them into a pie, which he serves to their mother before killing her, too. The Roman emperor kills Titus, and Titus' last remaining son kills the emperor and takes his place.

Magical and dreamlike in its tone, Shakespeare’s The Tempest begins with a storm of epic proportions and a shipwreck. Banished from Italy, Prospero lives on a remote island with his daughter. Using his magic, he vows to seek revenge on the injustice dealt to him by his brother, but in doing so, Shakespeare questions the difficulty of distinguishing ‘men’ from ‘monsters’, and the realities of justice.

The Rape of Lucrece follows a popular story from one of Shakespeare's favourite ancient writers, Ovid. Lucrece is the angelic wife of Collatine, an illustrious Roman general. She is coveted and eventually attacked by Prince Tarquin, Collatine's best friend.

The duke leaves Angelo in charge of Vienna, where he quickly condemns Claudio to death for immoral behaviour. Angelo offers to pardon Claudio if his sister, Isabella, sleeps with him. Isabella agrees but has Angelo's fiancée switch places with her. The duke returns to spare Claudio, punish Angelo and propose to Isabella.

Roman General Coriolanus makes his name defeating an enemy army and defending Rome. The Senate nominates him as consul, but he cannot win the people's vote, so he is banished from Rome and allies with his old enemy. He comes to attack Rome, his mother persuades him not to and his new-found ally kills him for the betrayal.

Leontes, suspecting his wife's infidelity, imprisons her and exiles her infant daughter to a faraway island. Years later, his wife, presumed dead, is returned to him as a statue.
