A small yellow rain slicker, arms pressed flat against a north bedroom window and facing the wetlands, appeared in a photographer’s image with no one able to explain how it arrived - the garment now sealed in an archival box after textile analysis dated it to late 1970s-mid 1980s. How did a child’s raincoat show up inside a room that had been latched, cold, and undisturbed for over a year?
In this episode, we tell the documented account of the object, the house, and the woman who lived there, laying out the photographs, the conservator’s findings, and the house’s history to ask: what possible explanations remain for an unexplained physical artifact appearing in a locked room?

- Photographer took eleven shots before sunrise and found the farmhouse in eight frames showing the yellow slicker in the north bedroom window.
- The homeowner had entered the north bedroom only once upon moving in during autumn 2017 and had not returned for over a year.
- Textile conservator Dr. Pamela Osei dated the rain slicker’s style to late 1970s through mid-1980s and noted dust accumulation measured in years.
- County records show the original farmhouse was demolished and rebuilt in 1983 after spring floods the previous year.
- Between 2018 and 2021 Frances reported hearing approximately twelve occurrences of small footsteps starting in the north bedroom and stopping before the top of the stairs.
