Her sister walked out of a hospital bed in a coma gown. Nobody at the party even noticed.

Serena just wants a normal Saturday night in Calabasas. But something followed her sister Jocelyn out of Providence Hospital in Tarzana — and by the time anyone at the party understands what they're looking at, it's already too late to leave.

Episode 4 of Zombie: Year One — a weekly transmedia horror series about a virus that didn't stay contained, and a world too numbed to believe what's standing right in front of it.

From Jeremy Elice — the AMC executive who brought The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad to television.

One o'clock in the morning on Mulholland Drive. No streetlights, no guardrails, half a mile of empty asphalt running the spine of the Santa Monica Mountains — and two eighteen-year-olds with a score to settle.

Malcolm Post built his Challenger over two years of Saturday afternoons in a two-bay garage off Reseda Boulevard. Six hundred forty horsepower at the wheels. Diego Merkovich keyed it hood to quarter panel, and everyone knows it, and knowing isn't proving. So they're going to settle it the old way: your car and mine, name the night. Twenty-four people have come up the hill to watch.

None of them pay much attention to the kid on the race crew who can't stop sweating. The one who coughs something dark across the hood of a parked Acura.

The Drag Race is a story about a kid who spent two years building the perfect machine and one night learning what it costs to walk away from it. It's about grudges that stop mattering, a neighbor who comes out in his bathrobe to give a speech he'll never finish, and it's about who you can save when the road home is half a mile of darkness... And who you can't.

Told at street level, from behind the wheel of an American muscle car — no room for error, and no one coming to help.

The cops will call it a street race gone bad.

The cops have no idea.

Derek Evans doesn't care about gun control. He cares about Alexis. That's the only honest thing about the afternoon he spends shoulder to shoulder with thousands of protesters on the south edge of UCLA's campus — he knows exactly why he's there, and it has nothing to do with the cause on the signs.

He's playing a part. It's a harmless lie. Everyone does it.

Then a woman in a green jacket collapses in the heat. Then the crowd stops feeling like a crowd and starts feeling like something else entirely. Then the sirens stop being background noise.

By the time Derek understands what's happening, it's too late to do the right thing — and he has to decide, fast, what kind of person he actually is.

Very Fine People is a story set in the opening hours of an outbreak that looks, to everyone watching, like a riot. There are no monsters. There is no army. There is just a young man who showed up for the wrong reasons, and a city beginning to come apart at the seams — and the unbearable question of whether showing up at all is enough.

This is horror stripped to the bone. No fangs. No special effects. Just fever, fear, and the choices we make when no one is keeping score.
