In this episode of Zdenek’s English Podcast, I do things a little differently.

I attach a microphone to my T-shirt, put my phone in its holder, jump on my bike and head out for a ride — and ramble about whatever comes to mind.

I talk about my summer in Czechia, some of the highlights from my time in Vietnam, the football podcasts I've been on, what I’ve been up to lately, and, inevitably, the things that annoy me. Especially drivers. 😅

So come along for a bike ride and a completely unscripted English ramble about life, travel, summer, Vietnam, Czechia and everything in between.

No script. No studio. Just me, my bike and a microphone.

In this episode, I’m joined by Clare, an Englishwoman who moved to the Czech Republic before the Velvet Revolution and settled in Moravia.

We get into her tutoring business, what she’s noticed about younger generations, and what it’s like teaching students from different cultures—including Chinese learners.

In the second half, the conversation opens up. We touch on current politics and try to look at the bigger picture, with names like Trump, Babiš, Orbán, Boris Johnson, and Epstein all coming up along the way.

This episode of Zdenek's English Podcast was originally published as an episode of my other podcast, The Footglish Podcast.

My guests this time are Honza Popek — my cousin and a sharp football mind — and David Nyč, a reporter, commentator, presenter of ONE PLAY TV, and co-author of the podcast Druhý Dotek Zdeňka Folprechta. 🎙️

In this episode of Footglish, we dive into a historic moment as Czechia finally books their place at the World Cup — and yes, we properly celebrate it too.

We discuss:

⚽ Czechia’s long-awaited qualification and the key factors behind this success,

⚽ The captaincy shake-up — why Tomáš Souček lost the armband and whether Ladislav Krejčí has stepped up as a stronger leader,

⚽ Standout performances from Pavel Šulc and how he’s transformed our attacking threat,

⚽ The tactical identity under new manager Miroslav Koubek — now officially the oldest coach at the World Cup,

⚽ Our strengths: set pieces, penalties, and why Czechia might be more dangerous than people think,

⚽ And finally, our chances in the World Cup group — can this team go further than expected?
