Welcome to You Suck at Standup, the podcast that finally answers the question: "What if comedians were brutally honest and just admit..... they suck?! " Hosted by comedian Rudy Pavich (Amazon Prime, The Adam Carolla Show), this podcast pulls back the curtain on stand-up comedy, bombing on stage, surviving the road, chasing laughs, and all the terrible decisions that somehow lead to a comedy career. Each week, Rudy talks with comedians, entertainers, and interesting people about what it really takes to make audiences laugh. You'll hear behind-the-scenes stories, career disasters, unexpected successes, comedy advice that may or may not work, and plenty of proof that nobody actually knows what they're doing. Whether you're a comedian, comedy fan, or just someone trying to figure out life one awkward conversation at a time, you'll quickly discover that everyone sucks at something. • Editing Clips, Ego, and Gillis' 77,000 Tickets and What it Means For Us.

Editing Clips, Ego, and Gillis' 77,000 Tickets and What it Means For Us.
    Jul 21 2026
Rudy owns up to an editing mistake after a heckler's "Renée Good jokes" jab blows up online — and unpacks why the clip made him look more fragile than he actually felt in the moment. Then: Shane Gillis just sold 77,047 tickets for a single show, breaking two Guinness World Records. Rudy breaks down what that actually means in dollars, why most working comics will never see numbers like that, and why chasing virality is the wrong goal — building your own room, one real fan at a time, is the one that pays off. • Why You're Still Bombing (And It's Not Your Jokes) ft. Adam Bloom | You Suck at Standup

Why You're Still Bombing (And It's Not Your Jokes) ft. Adam Bloom | You Suck at Standup
    Jun 30 2026
Most new comedians think bombing means their jokes aren't good enough. They're wrong. In this episode I sit down with British comedian and author Adam Bloom to talk about what's actually holding new comedians back — and it has nothing to do with your joke writing. We get into finding your comedic character, why copying your heroes is keeping you stuck, the seesaw theory of punchline rhythm, how to reset a dying room, and what your opening joke needs to do before you say anything funny. Adam Bloom is the author of Finding Your Comic Genius — one of the best books ever written on stand-up comedy. This conversation is for comedians in their first 1-3 years who are serious about figuring out how this industry actually works. Topics covered: • Why your set isn't working (and it's not your jokes) • How audiences teach you who your character is • The mic tap reset technique for dying rooms • The seesaw theory of punchline rhythm • Why copying your heroes is permanent plagiarism • How to structure your opening to set up your persona 00:00 - Intro 02:11 - Searching for your comedic character 04:05 - The quickest route to mediocrity 09:53 - Working a full time job outside of comedy 12:16 - How to pull out of bombing on stage 21:30 - Every great joke needs THIS! 29:06 - The importance of an opening joke Follow Adam Bloom: Instagram @AdamBloomComedy Book: Finding Your Comic Genius - https://share.google/83RoLQXBRFb5IVJ9v Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to the very first episode of You Suck at Standup with comedian Rudy Pavich. If you're a comic who's ever bombed on stage, questioned your career, obsessed over a bad set, wondered how to get an agent, or tried to survive on gas station coffee and club food—you've found your people. In this debut episode, Rudy shares the first rule of stand-up comedy: everybody bombs. From open mic beginners to comedy legends, nobody escapes bad sets. He also pulls back the curtain on the reality of life as a working road comic—the travel, the thin margins, the hustle, the sacrifices, and why he wouldn't trade it for a corporate job. Topics include: 🎤 Why bombing isn't the end of the world 🎤 Advice for comics in smaller markets 🎤 The financial reality of touring stand-up 🎤 Why followers matter more than talent (sometimes) 🎤 Getting an agent (or not) 🎤 Building a comedy career one show at a time 🎤 Lessons learned after years on the road Whether you're a seasoned comedian, a new comic, or just someone curious about what life in stand-up is really like, this podcast is for you.
