What is Writeopolis? Writeopolis is a fortnightly (or, for US listeners, twice a month) conversation between writing professionals (and Kit Power). The conversation happens live every other Sunday evening via Discord, with live text chat accompanying the voice discussion (no video; RJ and Kit don't have that kind of time to sort their hair out every weekend). The resultant conversation is later released in podcast form via this feed. Who is Writeopolis? Writeopolis is BFS Award winner RJ Barker, author and playwright Scott K Andrews, and BFA finalist author, blogger, podcaster and procrastinator (and the one who does all the work) Kit Power, in conversation every fortnight with professionals from across the writing industry. The aim is to recreate the conversational vibe of chatting at the bar of a really good con with the guest of honour. Without the stale chips and having to yell to be heard. Though if you want stale chips, that's fine, we guess. But they are not provided. When and where is Writeopolis? Every other Sunday - 8:30pm to 9:30(ish)pm on Discord - https://discord.gg/SxBWXrbnWp , with recordings appearing here the following Friday for Patreon backers - https://www.patreon.com/writeopolispodcast , and FREE the Friday afterwards for all. We're incredibly grateful for your financial support, but we will never charge for access to the Writeopolis live show or podcast. Why is Writeopolis? Because writing is a lonely profession, and cons didn't come around often enough even before Covid. Because the best bit of any con is the chat you have at the bar on the Sunday evening. Because we're passionate about every single aspect of writing, and we love to talk about it with fellow misfits.2021 Arte Storia e critica della letteratura

    Writeopolis S12 E6 - Shauna Lawless
    Oct 6 2026

Mythology Queen Shauna Lawless joined us for a fascinating discussion including:

    • RJ brazenly announcing he wrote the Wyrdwood books specifically so that they could easily sell the film rights as they would be cheap to make… RJ may have failed in this endeavour

    • Shauna's excellent approach to home schooling in lockdown: throw out the curriculum, throw on Bill And Ted

    • Shauna greatly offended and intrigued the Sandwich Shop of Dreams

    • The recent announcement of the TV show of Shauna's series!

    • RJ teases about All The Things!

    • Kit has flashbacks to having to cut 4k words from a 44k not-novella to make it an actual novella

    • Kit compares the differences between writing song lyrics and writing prose

Listen in for all this and so much more! Enjoy!

    Writeopolis S12 E3 - Steve Toase
    Sep 29 2026

    We're back!!

After a year full of far too many disruptive shenanigans, it is time to get this show back on the road! Or back in the podcast feeds, anyway.

And what better way to do it than an episode with Steve Toase that immediately veered off into a discussion about German cake and cheese. Classic. Topics also included, but were not limited to:

    • RJ knows what podcast he's on, so that's a good start

    • Steve started discussing his work and a few minutes later vampire motorbikes appeared

    • Inevitably, Stephen King

    • Steve has read many books. This is confusing for everyone.

    • RJ broke the rules

    • "Flaccid fish finger"

    • A fight broke out over mushy peas

    • Thagomizer!

Look, if you want context, you'll just have to listen! Enjoy!

    Writeopolis S4 E1 - Host Only
    Jun 9 2026

In a miracle the likes of which we can barely comprehend, a lost episode has been found! That's right, the host-only opener to Season 4 has been discovered in the vaults of Kit's laptop. Behold an episode asking the big questions, such as:

    • Are musicals any good?
    • Are Queen any good?
    • Is Bo Rap any good?
    • Is religion any good?
    • Is Lie To Me any good?
    • Pantsers and planners
    • Worldbuilding
    • Is the new Game of Thrones any good?

And much, much more. Enjoy :)

Disclaimer: Please be aware that this episode contains discussions around Neil Gaiman and his work. It was recorded before the recent allegations concerning his conduct were public knowledge. We believe victims. Listener discretion is advised.
