In Genesis 18, Abraham petitions with God for at least 10 people to be found righteous for God not to destroy Sodom. Unfortunately, 10 were not found.

YET, in Genesis 19, God was faithful to Lot and his family to give them opportunity to leave before the angels destroyed the city.

Abraham was a part of this journey through his prayers. Lot was preserved. Even though it wasn't 10 people, at least one family was preserved.

There is power in intercession.

May the Lord use you to change the lives of others because of your prayers!

God welcomed Abraham into a journey of intercession on behalf of Sodom.

Because of the calling of God on Abraham's life, God worked with Abraham based on who Abraham was.

As we walk with God and begin to understand and embrace who we are, He will welcome us into some of His affairs. The affairs may not have anything to do with us, but God trusts us.

Will we be faithful and trustworthy, allowing God to use us to change other people's lives? In Abraham's situation, the Lord responded to all six of Abraham's intercessory pleas.

Abraham knew God's character and petitioned God based on who God is, not based on Abraham's agenda.

May we be a people of intercession, and may the Lord welcome us into the affairs of the earth because he sees us trustworthy.

As you grow in your relationship with the Lord, you will begin to get more exclusive access to God's agenda.

"Many are called, yet few are chosen..."

God calls out to many to participate in the journey that God has prepared, yet there are conditions and character dynamics required to be chosen. There is a place of friendship with God where He will reveal deeper things to those who are chosen.

In Genesis 18:16+, God identifies how He has chosen Abraham...

May we all be faithful to our calling so that we are chosen to go deeper and participate in the things God has for us.

In Genesis 18, Abraham is hospitable to three angels who come to visit him about his child coming soon. Abraham is living life, and God interrupts; thus, Abraham is responsive. The goal of this walk with the Lord is about being responsive to the Lord and his agenda.

In comparison, others in scripture were simply responsive to the crazy story that God tells. Consider Jesus' mother, Mary, who is an engaged young woman willing to let God use her body to bring forth God's son, Jesus. She was willing and responsive.

Consider another Mary, the sister of Lazarus and Martha, who knew Jesus and had friendship with Him in such a way that made Jesus cry.

There are ways we respond to the Lord that trigger certain responses in Him.

May we live a life that triggers God to respond to us favorably!

In Genesis 17, Abraham is reminded of the promise that God has for him now, after 24 years of waiting. He laughs.

Abraham's laughter is probably after processing the reality of the matter:

• He has waited now 24 years.
• He has another son.
• He is still in an impossible situation; he's 99 and his wife is 89 years old.
• He has to reinforce his belief in God.

As you listen in, consider that we have a God of Possibilities in the midst of impossibilities.

Abraham is the Father of our Faith because God trained Abraham to learn how to trust God in something that is impossible.

God is a God of covenants. Covenants regularly require the shedding of blood.

When God gave Abram the covenant of circumcision, he had to cut away certain things in his life in obedience to the Lord.

In your calling, have you cut away the things of the flesh (i.e., sinful nature)?

In your calling, have you had your heart circumcised?

In your calling, have you embraced that Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice for your life, offering a covenantal sacrifice to give you access to God?

God changes Abram's name to Abraham in Genesis 17.

Abram means "Exalted Father," yet Abraham means "Father of Many." This is a critical period of change, purpose, identity, and functionality for Abram.

He was not a "Father of Many" at the time of the change; he had only one child.

Why did God change Abraham's name when he was not a father of many...?

God knows your function and purpose in life.
